Coronation Street's traumatic abuse storyline between Geoff Metcalfe and Yasmeen Nazir has sparked floods of Ofcom complaints.

The twisted pensioner has been abusing his wife for months in a horrific tirade that has gone undetected by their friends and neighbours.

Some Corrie viewers have been forced to switch off uncomfortable scenes – with telly watchdog Ofcom telling The Sun that 146 viewers complained about just four episodes.

Nasty Geoff's campaign of terror started off slowly but reached worrying levels when he forced Yasmeen to eat crab shell from the bin.

He even called his wife "fat Yas" and "thunder thighs", before locking claustrophobic Yasmeen in a magic box for hours.

Corrie viewers struggled to watch the uncomfortable scenes as sick Geoff mimicked her voice and turned up the music so no one could hear her screams.

But there is hope that Yasmeen's ordeal will come to and end next week when Alya finds her grandmother crying.

Suspicious Alya will go digging into some vile reviews about Speed Dahl – but will she realise Geoff is responsible?

Corrie is no stranger to Ofcom – with a surviving relative of four people killed in an arson attack has complaining in January.

Gemma and Chesney's home was set alight with the mum and her four newborn kids inside in shocking scenes.

A burning rag was pushed through the letterbox, prompting viewers to draw comparisons with the real-life 2017 tragedy which took place in the same city.

The ITV soap was also at the centre of a row after Evelyn Plummer made an “insensitive” remark about IVF babies at the end of last year.

Viewers besieged watchdog Ofcom after the controversial comment, which was shown during Fertility Awareness Week.

Maureen Lipman’s character discussed how Gemma Winter had given birth to quadruplets.

Evelyn said: “You can’t move for twins and triplets these days. At least she did it the old-fashioned way and not through, what’s it, IVF.”

Some viewers said it was insensitive to couples struggling to conceive and vowed a boycott. Yesterday Ofcom had received 60 complaints.

Corrie had 1,098 complaints last year – 214 of which were related to David Platt being drugged and raped by Josh Turner.
