Coronation Street fans were heartbroken after the emotional hospital scenes.

Roy Cropper, played by David Neilson, gave a moving speech to his niece Nina Lucas, who was brutally attacked in shocking scenes on the soap.

Nina and her partner Seb Franklin were violently attacked by a gang in a hate crime because of Nina’s gothic appearance.

Fans had the tissues at the ready for the heartbreaking scenes, as Roy talked to her from her bedside.

Roy has been caring for Nina since 2019, following the death of his brother Richard.

He feels guilty, and poor Roy said he felt like he failed her over the attack.

Viewers saw him vow to never let her down again if she pulls through.

He said: "I will look after you to the best of my ability."

The tears flowed as Roy was handed a bag of Nina's piercing jewellery, after doctors had to remove them to perform surgery.

Viewers now want David Neilson to win awards for his emotional scenes.

He’s played the role of cafe owner Roy since 1995.

"Just give Coronation Street all the awards," said one person.

Another tweeted: "Roy's monologue is giving me goosebumps, wow. Simply just wow. If that doesn't win an award I'll be shocked."

"Roy Cropper deserves more awards, favourite actor ever," another tweeted.

Someone else raved: “David Neilson delivers his lines like he’s acting a Shakespearean tragedy – he’s truly unique in the soap world – Roy might be written for him but he’s 100% the creator.”

The praise kept coming as another said: “David Neilson who plays Roy is such a great actor his monologue literally broke my heart," said another.

Emotions were running high from fans, as one tweeted: "Roy Cropper ripping my heart out."

Coronation Street has been praised for how it has handled the tough hate crime story line.

Executive Producer Iain MacLeod said: "At its core we wanted it to be a story about showing the horrific intolerance that can face people purely on the basis of how they look like, perhaps, or what music they might listen to or what subculture they identify with and that is the core of the storyline, right at the finish line.”

Fans are holding out hope that Nina and Seb survive, and want Corey and his gang to face justice.

The young couple were badly beaten and are now fighting for their lives.

Unsurprisingly, Mollie Gallagher and Harry Vision who play Nina and Seb, have both also been praised.

Viewers will have to wait and see if they pull through.
