Coronation Street: Eliza and Sam strike up a friendship
Last week, Coronation Street fans saw Eliza Woodrow (played by Savannah Kunyo) confess to grandad Stu Carpenter (Bill Fellows) she’s being bullied at school over her mum being in prison.
Stu was later left devastated when a meeting with her school didn’t go according to plan after they suggested his granddaughter may be better off elsewhere.
After striking up a friendship with Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan), Eliza decided she wanted to go to Weatherfield High, where her new friend attends, other than the private school Stu had in mind.
However, in scenes set to air next week, it looks as though Eliza’s new bond with Sam could cause her more trouble than she thought.
In scenes set to air next week, Eliza and Stu return from their meeting at Weatherfield High when they run into a loved-up Sam and Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan).
Approaching his new friend, Sam invites Eliza to join them for tea at No.9.
Although it’s clear Hope is less than happy with his suggestion as her jealousy takes over and she shoots Eliza daggers.
Later on, Hope decides to perform karaoke for Fiz (Jennie McAlpine), Tyrone (Alan Halsall), Sam and Eliza as they’re left having to dutifully applaud.

However, Hope’s mood quickly changes when Sam offers to teach Eliza how to play chess, leaving her absolutely furious.
It looks as though the trio are set to spend more time together as Stu later receives an email confirming his granddaughter can start at Weatherfield High after half-term.
When Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) suggests they organise a birthday party for her, Eliza is thrilled and Stu sees it as an opportunity for her to make some new friends.
When he tells Tyrone about the party plans, he wonders if Hope could come up with a list of people at Weatherfield High to invite as Eliza is yet to meet anyone else.
With Hope unimpressed with her new closeness to Sam, could she see this as an opportunity to try and isolate Eliza from everyone before she’s even started school?
Out of spite, Hope could tell Stu she’s invited all of the class who are excited to meet Eliza. Although she decides not to give out any invites, Eliza is left heartbroken when the only people that show up to her party are Hope and Sam.
Executive producer Iain MacLeod teased Coronation Street viewers will see a different side to Hope this year.
He said: “We thought: ‘Actually, we’ve done some very dark and twisted things with that character, and okay that’ll still be part of her, but for the next 12 months we’re going to do normal pre-teen stuff’.”
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
