CORONATION Street's Faye Brookes will be killed off by show bosses so she can never return after her shock resignation from the soap last month.
The Sun Online can exclusively reveal that the 31-year-old actress, who plays Kate Connor, will exit in brutal scenes this autumn.
An insider told us: "Faye's been told by producers she is going to be killed off rather than just written out.
"It's a message to other cast members that they can be got rid of."
The Sun Online has contacted a representative for the show for comment.
Faye sensationally quit the soap last month after four years, telling fans she was leaving the cobbles to "explore new opportunities".
She tweeted: "Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it's time for me to explore new opportunities, I've loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I'm off to pastures new. #corrie."
The star, who is engaged to singer Gareth Gates, will be on the screen until the early autumn.
A show spokesman said after the resignation: "Faye is a very talented actress who has put her all into the portrayal of Kate Connor for the past three-and-a-half years, we wish her every success for the future.
"She will be on screen until early Autumn and the door will be left open."
Her exit news followed hot on the heels of an emotional storyline which saw Kate's wife-to-be Rana Habeeb die in her arms after the factory roof collapsed.
"Rana's death was the hardest thing I've ever had to film and emotionally I ran myself into the ground with it," Faye said at the time.
Six other Corrie stars – Katie McGlynn, Lucy Fallon, Kym Marsh, Tristan Gemmill, Connie Hyde and Bhavna Limbachia – have also quit the show this year creating a staffing crisis.
Kym said of her time on the programme: "When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here 13 years later.
"It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to explore some other roles."
Tristan quit his role as chef Robert Preston and revealed he will bow out later this year, potentially alongside on-screen ex-wife Kym or even with a prison sentence.
He devastated fans by tweeting the announcement, writing: "Folks, I just wanted to let you know that the time has come for me to hang up the chef’s gear and head for pastures new.
"There is still a lot of drama & shenanigans to come for Robert but I will be leaving @itvcorrie later in the year."
The string of exits from the soap came after the filming schedule became more intense – shooting six shows a week instead of five.
"It's chaos backstage as the filming schedules to keep up with six episodes a week have been putting everyone under huge pressure. Lots of people are stressed and very unhappy," an insider told The Sun.
"The crew are even referring to Corrie as the Titanic as they fear they are all going down with the ship."
