Coronation Street fans have been watching the gradual build-up of abuse Yasmeen Nazir (played by Shelley King) has been experiencing at the hand of manipulative husband Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) for over a year. But in tonight’s (Friday, May 1) episode, Yasmeen will finally stand up to her abuser which fans of the ITV soap have been urging her to do for months. The distressing scenes will be aired this evening but what will this mean for Geoff?
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Coronation Street.
Geoff initially seemed like the answer to Yasmeen’s prayers after the heartbreaking break-up from her husband Sharif Nazir (Marc Anwar) who had been cheating on her for years.
He worked as a radio presenter at the local hospital and Yasmeen met him while she was visiting Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) in hospital.
The pair quickly got together, he moved into her home and even eloped and got married in Las Vegas.
But over time, Geoff has shown his true colours, taking control of every part of her life, cutting her off from friends and family, being in charge of her bank accounts and even timing Yasmeen whenever she leaves the house.
In Wednesday’s (April 29) episode, fans once again feared what he would do next when he discovered Yasmeen had hidden a suitcase full of her clothes in a locked cupboard.

While at the Corner Shop, Geoff looks at the footage from the secret camera he installed in the living room and sees Yasmeen hiding something in a cupboard.
On his return, he asks to see what’s inside and finds the suitcase, which he takes into the garden and empties all of its contents into a waste bin and burns her belongings.
But what was even more distressing is when he tells her to go on her knees and say that she is never going anywhere, which she does.
Coronation Street has been teasing tonight’s episode for the past week, indicating how Yasmeen will lash out at Geoff, potentially resulting in him being killed.

Will the ending of Geoff and Yasmeen’s abuse storyline be changed?
Earlier this year, the cast of the ITV soap was seen going to court to film the trial for what happens in tonight’s show.
However, before Coronation Street was able to finish filming these scenes, they had to stop as the UK went into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking to This Morning earlier today, actress Shelley King has now said she isn’t sure what is going to be shown and if the ending to their story will be changed as a result.
King said: “I don’t know just how much of that bit that we have already filmed is going to go forward, we were stopped mid-stream and its going to be very difficult.

She continued: “It depends on what we are allowed to do with Government restrictions, so I don’t know whether what you’ve heard has been filmed will be shown.”
So if the show is unable to film, could Yasmeen be sent to prison for the murder of Geoff?
This evening’s episode is the one fans have been eager to see following the year-long abuse.
Actress King has talked about how the latest episode is Yasmeen’s “survival”.

When presenter Eamonn Homes called it a “retaliation”, King said: “I wouldn’t actually call it retaliation, it started two years ago and if you take a look back at Geoff’s introduction…we all love him.
“But it’s been a slow drip and gradual escalation of abuse.
‘It’s not an attack, she’s defending herself, it’s an instinct, she’s a cornered animal…all she does is defend herself.
“She doesn’t even know in that moment what is happening to her.
“All Yasmeen is thinking of in the scene tonight is her survival.’
Coronation Street continues tonight, Friday, May 1, at 7.30pm on ITV.
