Corey (played by Maximus Evans) has placed the blame entirely on Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson), who has been charged with Seb’s (Harry Visinoni) murder. Friday’s episode of Coronation Street saw Nina (Mollie Gallagher) start to remember some of the events leading up to the attack, and she is certain Corey was the main culprit. But with police able to place Kelly at the scene, and Corey’s lies carefully thought-out, it seems Corey may not be facing charges. One fan though has theorised a potential clue that could put him at the scene.
Taking to forum site Reddit, they said: “As someone who has worked covering the cell phone industry and consumer electronics for around 10 years, the whole hate crime can be sped up a whole lot just via their cell phone data.
“Of course I understand the need for drama and soap logic (“Please, feel free to hang out in the apartment while we’re collecting evidence!”) but placing Corey outside of the apartment at the approximate time of the attack would take no time at all
” Even if he somehow found a way to erase the location data from EVERY app on his phone (spoiler: you really can’t if location services are turned on), it still would have pinged towers.
“Yes, you can say this was close enough to the flat to not be conclusive, but there would have been a tracked path of pinging from the wasteland to the site of the attack along with timestamps.”
They went on to explain that the data would be correlating with Kelly’s phone as further evidence.
Could this be how Corey is finally caught out?
Others agreed with the theory, with one person commenting: “I was thinking the same but I think it will come to that since the police did mention cell phone data to Kelly.”
Another said: “In this day and age, if you have a cell phone on you it’s near impossible to say you were anywhere but where you really were.
“Add in if you have Wi-Fi turned on and they can pretty much get you down to a street corner.”
Kelly was part of the attack, but it was definitely led by Corey.
However because he went to police of his own accord with his dad, who’s covering up for him, police are taking his word as well as a recording and DNA placing Kelly at the scene.
Viewers are appalled by the idea of Corey getting away with murder, and re hoping to see new evidence come to light soon.
Could the phone location ultimately give him away?
Fans have recently taken to Twitter to discuss the storyline, and they are all desperate to see Corey jailed.
One said: “Is Corey’s father bribing the police as why is he not in prison #Corrie @itvcorrie.”
A second wrote: “How the hell is Corey out and not charged, surely lying about an alibi and Summer’s statement plus with Nina remembering too #Corrie @itvcorrie.”
“One of the others involved have to tell them Corey was involved he cant get away with it #Corrie,” another person said.
Friday’s episode saw a devastated Abi Franklin Sally Carman taking her grief out on Nina, blaming her for Seb’s attack because the group had targeted them due to her being a goth.
A heartbroken Nina ended up completely changing her usual appearance, with different clothes and makeup.
She is starting to recall parts of the attack, so hopefully she’ll be able to give a detail account to police of what happened and who was involved.
But will this be enough? Friday’s episode saw officers doubting her memories because they are still hazy.
However, if Nina does remember the full extent of the attack, and phone data evidence places him at the scene, maybe he will be brought to justice after all.
Coronation Street continues on Monday at 7.30pm on ITV.
