Coronation Street's Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) is set to leave the cobbles soon, and fans are desperate for him to finally get his comeuppance.

The soap is also set to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the soap with a very dramatic storyline which will involved a lot of characters.

In recent weeks, Geoff is getting closer and closer to being exposed as his abused wife Yasmeen (Shelley King) waits in prison for her trial.

Whilst Geoff has managed to keep his son Tim on side, it is only a matter of time before Geoff is exposed as an abusive manipulator.

But fans have been speculating that Geoff's exit may not come from his evil actions being exposed, but from something far more dramatic.

It has been confirmed that a gaping crater will appear in the neighbourhood, causing the ground to collapse away.

The location of the sinkhole is said to be in the Platts' back garden – and it is next door to Geoff and Yasmeen's house.

Fans think that Geoff will be the one to "accidentally" fall, or be pushed, into the hole to his grisly death.

One wrote on social media: "The sinkhole would be good but maybe somewhere else? Geoff has been killed in a major who dunnit storyline, the body is buried but a sinkhole appears where the body has been buried."

Another added: "Who killed Geoff Metcalfe storyline for the anniversary episode."

A third chipped in: "Do Geoff murder at Halloween and reveal it during the 60th anniversary live episode (if they were planning of doing one)."

Is Geoff going to be killed off as he falls into the sinkhole?

Meanwhile, fans will also have to wait and see what happens to Yasmeen, as she is currently recovering in hospital after her heart attack.

The attempted murder trial was put on hold until she is well enough to stand, with Tim's wife Sally and Geoff's ex Elaine scheduled to appear as witnesses.

But Elaine mysteriously disappeared at the hands of Geoff, and fans have become worried she was murdered.

But will she come back in time to send her ex to prison?

Corrie continues tonight at 7.30pm on ITV.
