Britain’s Got Talent finalist Colin Thackery has melted everyone’s hearts over the past few weeks with his performances dedicated to his late wife.

Now getting ready to perform in the final on Sunday night, the Chelsea pensioner has said that he will ‘die a happy man’ if he wins, as the bookies place him favourite to take home the prize.

Admitting his dream to perform for the Queen at the Royal Variety Show, that 89-year-old said: ‘I served my Queen for 25 years, so if I thought I would have the chance to sing to her, I would die a happy man.’

‘It is very difficult for me to put into words how much it would mean. I cannot even imagine being on that stage in the presence of royalty. It would be absolutely marvellous,’ he added to The Sun.

Revealing that he learned to sing to keep up morale while in the Army, the veteran added that he was hoping that he could raise awareness of the ‘epidemic’.

‘I’m doing my bit for the oldies. Loneliness is epidemic among the older generation and I think that if you’re lonely, you need to go out and do something,’ he told the paper.

‘You don’t know what you’re capable of until you try. A choir is a great place to start because you go along and you meet new people.

‘People think you need to be able to sing to join a choir but you don’t. Everyone can be taught to sing.’

Since appearing on the show, Colin has won over the heart of the nation after revealing his love story with his wife, Joan, who passed away three years ago.

(He even managed to make Piers Morgan blub a little)

After performing classic We’ll Meet Again on Wednesday night’s semi-final, Colin won his place in the finals alongside Kojo Anim.

He will now face off against 11 other acts in order to take home the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Show – and the £250,000 prize.

Britain’s Got Talent’s finale starts Sunday at 7.30pm on ITV.
