IT became the surprise drama hit of 2019, now the BBC has confirmed it is bringing back The Capture for a second series.

But while Holliday Grainger will reprise her role as DI Rachel Carey, her co-star Callum Turner won’t be returning to the mind-boggling story of secret-service surveillance.

Instead the six-parter is adopting the approach of BBC1’s other huge success story, Line Of Duty, by changing the main focus each series.

I revealed eight months ago, when the first season ended, that execs had ordered a second helping of the thriller.

Beeb drama boss Piers Wenger said: “The BBC is so proud of The Capture which gripped and enticed audiences, and grew its audience each week from episode three — which is no mean feat.”

The show saw DI Carey investigate the case of squaddie Shaun Emery, (Callum), who had been framed for murder by dodgy CCTV footage.

Its respectable viewing figures on BBC1 more than doubled when the series was then put on iPlayer — where it is still available due to its popularity.

It’s also proved a huge hit globally, seen across half of Europe and Latin America plus Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Next month it will premiere in the US.

This was a no-brainer and I can’t wait to have my imagination captured again.
