Tonight’s episode of Coronation Street will focus on the mental health of Carla Connor (Alison King), as she goes through a psychotic episode.
Things have been going downhill for Carla in recent weeks, with the former Underworld boss becoming convinced that she’s to blame for the factory roof collapse.
Her paranoia has been growing that she caused Rana’s death due to her own negligence, to the point where she went missing and was hospitalised.
However, tonight will see things take an even more dramatic turn, with a standalone 9pm episode detailing what goes on for Carla.
Show boss Iain MacLeod stated: ‘We’ve given it a more cinematic feel with the lighting and colouring, to conjure a mood consistent with Carla’s mental state.
‘It’s also a single-strand episode; we’re not cutting to other stories. The director has found ways to allow the viewer to visualise Carla’s paranoid delusions.’
One of these delusions is that she can speak to Aidan, Rana, and Hayley.
Fans might be wondering whether Bhavna Limbachia (Rana), Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley) and Shayne Ward (Aidan) are actually coming back for the episode.
So far, we know that Carla sees visions of them but don’t know if the actors reprise their roles.
Corrie have been tight-lipped over the specifics of the whole thing, so although we know Carla sees them, it may just be in her own head rather than in new scenes.
Will Carla find out the truth about the factor saboteur? And will she be able to come back from the brink?
Watch Coronation Street tonight at 9pm.
