Imagine meeting Adam Driver. As star struck as most of us might be, the actor from shows like Girls and movies like House of Gucci says he’s often “more scared” to meet most of his fans than they are to meet him.
Some movies with Adam Driver have many people calling him ‘intense’
Driver’s acting portfolio is vast. He has touched all kinds of roles, from a zombie-slaying officer to a divorced dad and even a missionary. Regardless of the roles he plays, some fans categorize him as an “intense actor.”
“I don’t understand what that means,” Driver told Vulture regarding the description. Yes, Driver has had some intense scenes throughout his career, but he doesn’t understand why some people think he’s “intense” all the time.
“[Does it mean] that I show up on set and glare at people?” he continued. “That before every scene I’m like, ‘I need to fire off a rocket really quick and then I’ll come back and act’? That I carry around cold cuts that I smash before every scene?”
No matter how intense a role might be, Driver always seems to remain humble. He told The Guardian it’s flattering to win awards and be “honored by your peers,” but “winning those awards doesn’t mean anything.”
Adam Driver has ‘nothing to say’ about being a ‘sex symbol’
During that same interview with The Guardian, Driver was asked about his status among fans as an unconventional Hollywood sex symbol. “I have nothing to say about that,” Driver told the outlet.
As an actor who doesn’t fit the image of the conventional “Hollywood McHunk,” Driver admits to being told he has “an unusual face.” Being the conservative actor he is, other’s reactions to Driver’s face don’t both him. “My face is my face,” he said. “I had a whole life before acting, over the years. Lots of things have been said about my face.”
And for that nonchalant reaction, many people love Driver. And his face, of course.
One fan asked Adam Driver for a photo at a ‘very strange’ time
During an interview with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, the Star Wars actor recalled meeting a fan while a car crash was happening outside of a local coffee shop. “I went outside and there’s someone in the building across the street, yelling out their window like, ‘Is everybody ok? Is everybody ok?’” the actor recalled.
Driver remembered watching the aftermath of the accident unfold. As he saw a dazed man exit his SUV and another woman begin to cry, a fan approached Driver for a photograph with their child.
“In the midst of that, somebody brought up their kid and was like, ‘Hi, big Star Wars fan,’” Driver said. “And I’m like, ‘I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.’” Despite the weird circumstances, Driver took the photo with a coffee and a $100 bill in his hand as paramedics rushed by him.
“Very strange, that’s when it gets weird,” Driver added. Regardless of that one incident, Driver does enjoy meeting his fans. “It’s mostly good, I have a lot of kids in my building [and] that’s really fun,” he said. Most of them think he’s actually Kylo Ren, which he finds amusing.
‘It’s never a long conversation’ when Adam Driver meets his fans
During his interview with The Guardian, Driver addressed meeting his fans in public. Living in New York City, it happens pretty frequently.
“Reactions in the street are always good,” Driver said. “People don’t tend to come up to you and tell you you’re an a*shole.” When fans approach Driver, he says the conversation is “never a long [one].”
This is fortunate for Driver, who admits he’s more afraid to meet his fans than they are to meet him. “They usually see that I’m more scared of them than they are of me and the whole power dynamic shifts,” he explained. See? Even our favorite celebrities feel awkward around us fans times.
