Jasmine Harman visited Mar Menor in Spain for today’s edition of A Place in the Sun as she attempted to find Tracey and Dean their dream holiday home. However, the Channel 4 presenter was left stunned when the couple revealed they wanted to put a “cheeky” offer forward for an apartment that was already under budget.

Tracey and Dean were hoping to find a two-bedroom apartment with their £70,000 budget.

The couple has always wanted to live abroad and needed enough space for their three children and two foster children to visit.

At the start of the search, Jasmine asked why they were attracted to Spin.

“It’s fantastic here,” Dean replied. “Lovely sun, lovely sea it’s brilliant.”

“And what has made you decide to make this move now?” Jasmine asked.

“It’s always been a dream to move to Spain,” Tracey replied. “We want to spend more time in the sun and the weather at home stops us from doing our hobbies.”

The couple revealed they loved to jet ski and regularly holiday in Devon as a family to enjoy the activity.

Jasmine’s search got off to a great start with Tracey and Dean falling in love with the first property.

“We couldn’t get any closer to the beach,” Dean exclaimed.

“This has exceeded my expectations,” Tracey replied.

When Jasmine revealed the property was on the market for £55,500, Tracey commented: “Oh my goodness.”

As the couple looked around the apartment, they realised it needed to be modernised.

Discussing their new venture, Dean said: “This is a chapter of our life we’ve been waiting for for 30 years.”

Once the search was complete, they agreed it was a contender but wanted to see properties that had access to a communal pool.

The couple weren’t impressed with the second option as they felt the outside space but the third property put “a spanner in the works”.

Tracey admitted: “It’s ticked a lot of the boxes, you’ve thrown a scanner in the works, we’ve got a lot to think about.”

After they’ve visited all five properties, the couple revealed they wanted to put an offer forward for the first apartment.

“It’s been really hard because the [first property] needs a lot of work,” Tracey explained.

“We just didn’t think we’d get that close to the beach,” Dean added. “Considering the work that needs doing we’re going to be a bit cheeky or a lot cheeky and offer £46,500.”

“It’s on the market for £55,500 which is already well under budget but you’d like to knock some more off the price. I don’t know how likely an offer that low will be accepted but I’ll put a call into the agent.”

Luckily, after some negotiation, the couple and the owner agreed to a price of £48,000.

A Place in the Sun airs on weekdays on Channel 4 at 4pm.
