TV viewers were introduced to Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory in 2007. They first met Sheldon as an adult, but Young Sheldon, a spinoff premiering in 2017, introduced the genius physicist as a child. While the prequel has amassed a following in the years since its premiere, there is one major complaint about the series. The spinoff has introduced several major plot holes into The Big Bang Theory. Have you caught them?

George Senior is nowhere near as terrible as Sheldon Cooper described in The Big Bang Theory

By the time The Big Bang Theory premiered, Sheldon’s father, George Cooper Sr. had been dead for many years. Sheldon was only 14 when his father died. Still, he often referenced him. Sheldon’s recollections of George Sr. weren’t exactly kind, though. Sheldon pointed out that his father was a heavy drinker who regularly cheated on his wife, the devout Christian, Mary Cooper.

The prequel depicts a much different George. While there are clues that an affair between George and a neighbor could happen, he’s been mostly faithful to his wife. While he appears to enjoy a beer, he hasn’t been depicted as a mean or difficult drunk. Granted, that could all change in the coming seasons. Still, fans can’t rectify Sheldon’s adult recollections of his father and the softer depiction of George Sr. in Young Sheldon

Young Sheldon created a plot hole regarding Sheldon and Missy Cooper’s living situation

Missy Cooper, Sheldon’s twin sister, appeared on The Big Bang Theory as an adult. During one of her visits to California, she off-handedly mentioned that Sheldon once built a robot to keep her out of his bedroom. The tale seemed like a simple story of young siblings annoying each other. Missy only mentioned the robot once.

Still, Young Sheldon created a plot hole regarding Sheldon and Missy’s bedroom situation growing up. In the prequel, Sheldon and Missy share a bedroom in their East Texas house. If Missy and Sheldon shared a bedroom during their childhood, Sheldon could not have possibly created a robot to keep her out of his room. It was her room, too.

Did Amy Farrah Fowler give Sheldon Cooper his safety whistle, or did he always have it?

Sheldon was a creature of habit. He organized his backpack, and the contents rarely changed. In one episode, Sheldon emptied his bag to show his friends what was inside. He pointed out that the emergency whistle he kept in his bag was given to him by his girlfriend, Amy Farrah Fowler. The gift was a meaningful one, and since Sheldon had a photographic memory, it seems unlikely that he would misremember where he got something like a whistle.

The prequel introduced a plot hole regarding Sheldon’s whistle. In an episode of the spinoff, Sheldon showed off an emergency whistle that he kept in his childhood backpack. Reddit fans were quick to point out that the childhood version of Sheldon and the adult Sheldon had the same whistle. So, did Sheldon get his emergency whistle from his girlfriend, or did he have it from childhood?
