What an awkward bust.
Video obtained by TMZ shows the February arrest of Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire, who was allegedly caught masturbating in his car outside of a strip mall in Dunedin, Fla., near the team’s spring training complex.
The 25-year-old McGuire pleaded no contest and was fined $450 after initially being charged with exposure of sexual organs, a first-degree misdemeanor which is punishable by up to one year in jail and carries fines up to $1,000.
During the arrest, McGuire told police he had been checking to make sure “no one was looking,” but “realized what an idiot, what a dumb place to be” when he saw an officer approach his SUV after law enforcement was called to the scene.
“If you’re down at an apartment next to the stadium, why would you come to a parking lot just to masturbate,” a police officer could be heard asking McGuire.
McGuire responded, “I don’t know… I just decided to park.
“I realized that I made a mistake, having my pants down, doing what I was doing,” he added. I really am apologetic. And I know I shouldn’t have been doing this.”
Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputies said their cameras malfunctioned at the beginning of the arrest, which is why the beginning of the video is black.
It was unclear whether McGuire was reprimanded by the team or MLB.
The backup catcher has appeared in four games this season, hitting a home run.
McGuire is under contract this season for $569,400, meaning he will earn $210,678 of prorated pay during the abbreviated 60-game season.
