The Batman is returning to the big screen in the appropriately titled film “The Batman,” expected out next year. But that much you probably know already.

And if you have even a passing interest in comic-book movies, then you also already were aware that “Twilight” and “The Lighthouse” actor Robert Pattinson is set to play the Caped Crusader.

But we want you to be clued into all of the Batmania. What else is there to know? Well, there are tidbits we’ve already learned about “The Batman” director, its release date, and its cast (who may or may not have been revealed through cryptic tweets).

Robert Pattinson is playing a younger Batman

Last May, word got out that the Batman would be played by the Patman, who won the role over actor Nicholas Hoult, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Reaction from franchise fans was mixed, but Pattinson said he was “absolutely relieved” when he learned he’d been cast. Coincidentally, he was on the set of “Tenet,” a movie directed by Christopher Nolan, the filmmaker behind the acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy, when he heard the news.

Pattinson, 33, will play a younger hero than the one played by Ben Affleck, 47, in “Justice League.”

Pattinson has already tried on his Batsuit. He told “Variety” that it was “pretty humiliating” to have someone “squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.”

No, Ben Affleck isn’t in it

At one point, Affleck was going to reprise his Batman role by writing and directing this forthcoming movie. But he stepped down last year because he “couldn’t crack it,” the star said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

“So I thought it was time to let someone else take a shot at it,” he said. “They got some really good people, so I’m excited.”

Instead, Matt Reeves (“War for the Planet of the Apes,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “Cloverfield”) is writing and directing, and has been slowly revealing his cast on Twitter. Michael Giacchino, who scored Reeves’ “War for the Planet of the Apes,” will compose.

The “There Will Be Blood” star will play DC Comics criminal mastermind The Riddler, aka Edward Nashton, aka Edward Nygma. The character has been portrayed as a former employee at Wayne Enterprises who idolizes Bruce Wayne before turning bad.

Reeves announced his casting last October.

Colin Farrell is set to play Penguin

Reeves appeared to confirm the actor playing the baddie Penguin, who was born with the name Oswald Cobblepot – Oz for short. He shared a GIF of Farrell from “In Bruges,” and the hashtag #Oz this week. Warner Bros. has not responded to USA TODAY’s request for comment.

Zoe Kravitz will be Catwoman

Of course, Reeves tweeted about that one, too.

If Kravitz’s Golden Globe Awards look is any indication, she’ll have a pixie cut in the role.

Andy Serkis, Peter Sarsgaard, John Tuturro and Jeffrey Wright also will star

Yep, Reeves tweeted those, too, late last year. Serkis has been cast as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s British butler and valet. Sarsgaard’s role has not been confirmed. Tuturro will play Carmine Falcone, the powerful mafia boss. Wright is Commissioner Gordon, Gotham City’s guardian and Batman’s ally.

Woke up jet lagged at 10pm thinking I was late. 4:45am now. Off to Gotham.?

It will be in theaters in 2021

“The Batman” is set for release June 25, 2021.
