ROLL up, roll up – day 3 of Ascot is upon us and once again Templegate and Chappers are raring to go.

Matt banged in a winner with Crystal Ocean on Day 2, but Templegate is confident he's got the ammo to pull it back on Thursday.

Get a Head in the Hampton Court Stakes.

It was hard not to be impressed by HEADMAN when winning the London Gold Cup last month. That’s usually the hottest three-year-old handicap of the season and has thrown up a string of Group winners in the past including top-class Al Kazeem.

Like Headman, he was trained by Roger Charlton. While he’s got a long way to go to match the exploits of that Coral-Eclipse hero his Newbury victory suggests he’s well up to this level.

To give weight away all round to a stack of smart prospects was really good and he should continue to improve now he’s in the groove.

His previous defeat behind King Ottokar at Newbury came when he burnt himself out pulling too hard on testing ground. That’s clearly not a run to judge him on and, with the track drying out, I’m sure he’ll be fine with today’s conditions.

  • 2.30 Ascot – Sunday Sovereign
  • 3.05 Ascot – Headman (NAP)
  • 3.40 Ascot – Fleeting
  • 4.20 Ascot – Cross Counter
  • 5.00 Ascot – Davydenko
  • 5.35 Ascot – Sinjaari

Chappers

We end the day with the King George V Stakes Handicap over nearly a mile and a half at 5.35pm.

SINJAARI could be another to run well for Haggas. I was at Windsor when he scored with ease recently and he was far from disgraced when second at Newbury on his next start. The step up in trip is likely to suit.

  • 2.30 Ascot – Ventura Rebel
  • 3.05 Ascot – Fox Chairman
  • 3.40 Ascot – Frankellina
  • 4.20 Ascot – Stradivarius
  • 5.00 Ascot – Beatboxer
  • 5.35 Ascot – Sinjaari (NAP)
