JOCKEY Jack Mitchell landed a £25,000 payday – and promised to get the beers in – as Team talkSPORT won the inaugural £2million Racing League.
Mitchell usurped Hayley Turner at the top of the jockey table after a winner in the first with 6-4 Second Slip and dead-heat with 13-8 Bonneval in the third on a thrilling night under the lights at Newcastle.
The action came down to the last race of the last night where Mitchell's fourth on 13-2 Kingsholm was enough to seal top spot by just nine points from eToro racing.
Turner's Team ThoroughBid came third on 351 while Saffie Osborne led Team Swish to fourth with 343 points.
Mitchell, whose team overturned a 41-point deficit to win, said all his rivals cared about after victory was when he was getting the celebratory drinks in.
He said: "They're actually trying to work out how many beers they can get in that I can pay for.
"There's been beer orders, gin orders and champagne orders.
"It's amazing to win any kind of competition but this is something new and something I'm all for.
"I've had a lot of great support from the trainers and the horses I've ridden so it all plays a part."
Team talkSPORT manager Rupert Bell celebrated with the trophy – and likened his coaching skills to those of Pep Guardiola.
Bell said: "Big up to the trainers. Clearly they work very hard behind the scenes. We were way off the pace but then James Fanshawe's horses ran brilliantly and Jack Mitchell's riding, fair play.
"It's been different and it's been great fun. I've thoroughly enjoyed the six weeks."
