‘The entire country is so proud’: Piers Morgan, Wayne Rooney and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge lead the stars celebrating England’s thumping Euro 2022 semi-final win over Sweden

Piers Morgan, Wayne Rooney and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were among the high-profile names who took to social media to heap praise on England after they made it through to the Euro 2022 final.
The Lionesses booked their place in Sunday’s showpiece with a dominant 4-0 victory over Sweden, the side ranked second in the world, at Brammall Lane on Tuesday evening.
Beth Mead opened the scoring in the 34th minute and that was followed by three second-half goals from Lucy Bronze, Alessia Russo and Fran Kirby.
The feat resulted in the Lionesses receiving massive praise on social media from fellow players as well as celebrities outside of the game.
Morgan tweeted: ‘Brilliant.. (*Lioness: ‘a female lion.’)’ with clapping emojis.
England produced a brilliant performance to reach Sunday’s Euro 2022 final at Wembley
England men’s all time goalscorer Rooney, now manager of DC United, wrote: ‘What a performance by @Lionesses tonight.
‘A well deserved #WEURO2022 final coming up. Congratulations to all the players and staff.’
Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said: ‘Congratulations @Lionesses on making it to the #WEURO2022 final on Sunday.
‘The entire country is so proud of everything you’re achieving. We believe in you and will be with you all the way! W’.
Current England forwards Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford also showed their support for the Lionesses on Twitter.
Kane wrote: ‘Yesss @Lionesses ! Bring on the final’ while Rashford added applause emojis.
BBC Match of the Day host Gary Lineker commented: ‘Fabulous performance and win for @Lionesses. Wonderful’.
‘What a team, what a performance, what a moment for women’s sport and for football in this country. All hail @Lionesses’, said broadcaster Clare Balding.
Eniola Aluko, who featured for England that last time they reached a final in 2009, also sent her congratulations to the team as she praised manager Sarina Weigman.
The 35-year-old said: ‘HUGE congratulations to @England @Lionesses what a performance. What a win. What a tournament so far. The semi finals have been the stumbling block for years, now in the FINAL!
‘Sarina Wiegman has done what we knew she could do…. Now for Sunday! Now for the final!’
England will find out their opponent for Sunday’s final at Wembley when France and Germany go head to head on Wednesday evening.
