KENEDY has been sent back to Chelsea after Newcastle rejected the chance to sign him on a permanent deal.

The Brazilian winger had spent the season on loan at St James' Park and the deal had given the club the option to buy him for £30million this summer.

But the 23-year-old winger struggled to hold down a regular place in the side and Rafa Benitez decided he was not worth keeping for next season.

That means Kenedy will now return to Chelsea where he faces uncertainty over his future.

The former Fluminese prodigy has found it difficult to earn the trust of any of the first team managers at Stamford Bridge in the four years since he arrived.

The club valued him at £30m last summer, but now with just 12 months left on his existing deal they are unlikely to get that much for him.

And having failed to make much of an impression at Newcastle, few clubs  in the Premier League are likely to show an interest in signing him.

The other issue for Chelsea is the transfer embargo which currently prevents them signing any new players this summer.

Eden Hazard is almost certain to be leaving the club in a move to Real Madrid once the Spanish giants come close to their £100m valuation.

And another player who could operate on the left, Callum Hudson-Odoi, will miss the first month of the season at least as he recovers from a snapped Achilles.

That leaves that area of the squad short of cover, even though Christian Pulisic will join having sealed his £60m move from Borussia Dortmund in January.

So Maurizio Sarri, or whoever else is in charge should the Italian be sacked, may want to keep Kenedy around just for cover on the left of his side.
