The Ferrari ace holds a 19-point advantage over Verstappen after five rounds of the new season.

Jos revealed reliability issues with his RB18 car had limited his son's time to practise on Friday.

He said: "What an insanely good result for Max in Miami! He looked very strong again in the race after a difficult start to the weekend.

"I could understand why he was a bit irritable. It was a shame he made a mistake in qualifying, but that can happen.

He added: "If the reliability of the Red Bull proves to be good, then I think Max will have another strong season, and we will have a thrilling duel between him and Leclerc."
