MAX VERSTAPPEN finished in pole position for the British Grand Prix despite an embarrassing incident in the pit lane.

The Dutchman damaged his front wing when pitting during Q1 at Silverstone.

He was heard saying on the team radio: "I just understeered and it just didn't grip."

Sky's commentators were audibly confused by the mistake with David Croft saying: "Is that Max Verstappen?"

Marin Brundle added: "That's a bit embarrassing."

After having his front wing replaced, Verstappen was quick to bounce back from the embarrassing error, finishing in pole position with a lap time of 1:27:084.
