MANCHESTER UNITED defenders Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were are both doubts for their clash with Liverpool this weekend after picking up injuries against Bayern Munich last night.

Elsewhere, Anthony Martial is set to part ways with the Red Devils for free at the end of the season.

United have the option to trigger a one-year extension when his contract expires next summer, but reports suggest that they do not intend to activate it.

Meanwhile, Sir Jim Ratcliffe's takeover of the club will be confirmed soon, with the petrochemicals tycoon set to overhaul the stuttering football operation.

    'Not the standard' – Dalot

Diogo Dalot has slammed Manchester United's poor defensive record in the Champions League that has seen them finish bottom of Group A.

He said: “We cannot concede so many goals that we conceded in this group stage.

"It’s just not good enough. We’re obviously sad.

"But, at the same time, we just have to realise that this is not the standard that we want to set for this club and for us.

"So we have to get better."

    Ten Hag gives injury update

Erik ten Hag was unable to give a comprehensive update on the injuries suffered by Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw against Bayern Munich.

He told TNT Sport: "I can't say in this moment.

"We obviously have to wait 24 hours and then we will have an assessment and diagnosis so we have to wait for it."

Utd exit bad for English clubs left in

Manchester United’s Champions League exit is bad news for all of England’s clubs – and it could potentially get worse.

United finished bottom of Group A, with FC Copenhagen ending it second while Galatasaray finished third to drop down into the Europa League.

And if Newcastle join them tonight by failing to make it out of the group stage when they face AC Milan then the Premier League is at serious risk of missing out on an extra Champions League place next season.

The group stages will change next term due to the introduction of a “Swiss-style” format, with four additional teams being added to take the number of clubs competing to 36.

Uefa will award two of the extra four places to the countries who have collectively performed best in Europe during the previous season.

That is worked out by Uefa’s association club coefficient table and an average score being produced by dividing the total number of points won throughout the year by the number of its clubs that were involved. Points are awarded for wins in the group stage and participation in the round of 16.

If this was applied last season, then England would have finished in the top two along with the Netherlands as the Premier League’s coefficient was boosted by Manchester City lifting the Champions League and West Ham’s Europa Conference League success.

There were eight Prem teams competing in Europe during this season – but United’s exit and Newcastle’s potential elimination could hit England’s association club coefficient average

'Easy' for Utd to sign Kane and Rice

United legend Paul Scholes claims his old club's recruitment last summer “was the easiest it could’ve ever been” as he named the two stars they should have signed.

The TNT Sports pundit saw the Red Devils exit the Champions League with a 1-0 loss to Bayern.

And ahead of kick-off the ex-England midfielder discussed United's transfer failings.

Erik ten Hag signed Mason Mount from Chelsea for £60m, goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan for £47m, £72m Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund, Turkey international goalie Altay Bayindir and Jonny Evans on a free transfer.

And full-back Sergio Reguilon and midfielder Sofyan Amrabat both joined on loan from Tottenham and Fiorentina respectively.

However, Scholes said: “I think the recruitment at Manchester United this summer was the easiest it could’ve ever been.

“You think of the likes of Harry Kane, £100m probably, you get him. He’d have wanted to come here. The other one is Declan Rice. £100m.”

    Carra on laughing with Kate

Kate Abdo has left fans saying "she NEVER misses" after brutally trolling Jamie Carragher live on air.

The CBS Sports host could not resist taking aim at her colleague as she presented coverage of Tuesday's Champions League action.

Carragher had been analysing Manchester United's group stage campaign ahead of their final match against Bayern Munich.

However, the former Liverpool defender appeared slightly out of breath by the end of his monologue.

Once he had finished, Abdo quickly quipped: "I’ve got an inhaler in my bag, would it help you?"

Her brutal jab left Carragher speechless as fellow pundits Thierry Henry and Micah Richards burst out laughing next to him.

He was able to see the funny side, though, as he too began giggling in response to Abdo's comment.

Viewers were also left in hysterics by the presenter, with one writing on X, formerly Twitter: "@Kate_abdo NEVER misses."

Another added: "Kate Abdo is top tier."

A third fan also commented: "Nah Kate Abdo is funny."

    Bayern fans troll Utd

Manchester United were brutally trolled by Bayern Munich fans as they crashed out of the Champions League in historically bad style.

The Red Devils suffered a 1-0 defeat to Thomas Tuchel's side on Tuesday evening, leaving them rock bottom of Group A.

They were knocked out of the competition as a result and even failed to qualify for a place in the Europa League.

And to make matters worse, they faced taunts from travelling Bayern Munich supporters at Old Trafford.

Bayern fans started singing "Football's coming home" – a song synonymous with English football – immediately after Kingsley Coman scored the decisive goal.

Football fans took to social media to react, with one person writing: "Elite level banter 🤣."

Another added: "This is hilarious not just the fact it is embarrassing for United but also that Germans have become so proficient at speaking English they sound like them too."

    A third wrote: "Hahaha class!"

While one Man Utd fan commented: "Worst part tonight was we didn't have a go at Bayern 😞."

    De Gea itching to return

David de Gea has dropped a major hint he is ready to make a return to football.

The Manchester United legend remains without a club after leaving the Red Devils in the summer.

De Gea has reportedly rejected several offers since his United contract expired at the end of June.

Newcastle are the latest club to be linked with the 33-year-old goalkeeper following Nick Pope's shoulder injury.

Amid his links to the Magpies, De Gea has revealed he is continuing to train as he looks for a new club.

The Spaniard shared a snap of a pair of goalkeeper gloves as he stood in a field. Alongside the picture, which also showed De Gea wearing football boots, he attached a sticker reading: "Work, work, work."

De Gea is understood to have previously snubbed a move to Saudi Arabia during his time as a free agent. He has also been tipped as a potential target for Barcelona in recent weeks.

However, St James' Park remains his most likely destination if he is to return to the Premier League, with De Gea reportedly "open" to the idea.

Utd fans hail Bayern supporters' anti-Glazers stance

Manchester United fans applauded Bayern Munich supporters as the visitors launched an anti-Glazers protest tonight.

The Red Devils lost 1-0 to the Bundesliga giants in the Champions League at Old Trafford.

United knew that nothing but a victory would do if they were to progress into the knockouts but they went down to a Kingsley Coman goal that dumped them out of Europe completely.

However, there was one moment that brought fans from both teams together midway through the action.

The large travelling section of Bayern supporters unfurled two huge banners protesting against the ticket prices at Old Trafford.

One read “ 50£ Glazers overkill” while one beneath it said: “Twenty is plenty”.

It did not take long for the home supporters to spot it, and that soon led to a huge applause before a chant of: “We want Glazers out.”

United fans have protested for years over the club’s ownership as they wait for Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s deal to purchse a 25 per cent stake in the club to go through.

The Ineos chief will oversee football operations at United once that gets the green light, but furious supporters still want the American Glazer family gone.

But they soon took to social media to hail Bayern after their gesture as they gushed over the move.

  • Red Devils' sub ratings

    Jonny Evans (Maguire, 40) – 5

    Aaron Wan – Bissaka (Shaw 46) – 6

    Hannibal Mejbri ( Garnacha 74) – 5

    Facundo Pellistri (Antony 74) – 5

    Kobbie Mainoo (Varane 80) – 5

  • How Utd rated in attack

    Antony – 3

Again performed like a no – trick pony and of all of United’s under-performers he’s the first who should be dumped in January.

    Alejandro Garnacho – 8

Scared the pants off the Bayern defenders thanks to fierce left- flank raids – gave his side hope for a while.

    Rasmus Hojland – 4

Ran around in ever- decreasing circles but spent almost the whole team stranded on his own up front.

  • Red Devils' midfield ratings

    Scott McTominay – 5

Put in plenty of hard yards but only because he was given the run – around by more sophisticated opponents.

    Sofyan Amrabat – 7

The Moroccan’s best performance in a United shirt and surely earning a place for Sunday’s Anfield showdown.

    Bruno Fernandes – 4

Frustrating, enigmatic – the usual package from the captain who thinks he is so much better than he really is.

  • How United rated – defence

    Andre Onana – 5

No chance with Coman’s 70th  minute strike after a quiet night against a Bayern side only in third gear.

    Diogo Dalot – 6

Right-back put in a decent shift but could never fully commit in attack because Antony was so poor in front of him.

    Harry Maguire – 6

Limped off with groin problems to the standing ovation that showed how times have changed for the England defender.

    Raphael Varane – 7

Hadn’t started since Copenhagen in October but if he’s got a problem with Erik ten Hag it didn’t show.

    Luke Shaw – 6

Excellent covering, determined tackling and passing – had a good thing going with Garnacho up ahead but forced off at the break.

Scholes claims Utd missed easy mega signings

Paul Scholes claims Manchester United’s recruitment last summer “was the easiest it could’ve ever been” as he named the two stars they should have signed.

He was working as a pundit for TNT Sports as United took on Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Before the game, the now 49-year-old was discussing the threat of Harry Kane, who left Tottenham for Bayern for £104m in August after United pulled out of the chase to sign him.

Erik ten Hag instead brought in midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea for £60m, goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan for £47m, £72m Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund, Turkey international goalie Altay Bayindir and Jonny Evans on a free transfer.

And full-back Sergio Reguilon and midfielder Sofyan Amrabat both joined on loan from Tottenham and Fiorentina respectively.

Players square up in 'naughty incident'

Tensions threatened to boil over as Bayern Munich and Manchester United players almost brawled at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are facing the German giants in their must-win final Champions League group game tonight.

However, players from both teams squared up after a "naughty incident" on 24 minutes.

Alejandro Garnacho was attempting to get past Bayern Kingsley Coman when he ended up knocking him heavily into the pitchside hoardings.

The pair got in a tangle before the Man Utd player accidentally ending up throwing his Byaern counterpart into the boards.

The French star's team-mates raced over to square up to Garnacho, who soon had his own colleagues backing him up.

Fortunately, Coman escaped the incident unscathed as the referee got in the middle of the melee and eventually continued with the game with any punishment being dished out.

But not everybody was as convinced as the official that nothing sinister had occurred.

Ex-Chelsea and Blackburn striker Chris Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live: “I think Garnacho is a bit naughty there.”

Ten Hag urges United to 'energise' fans

Erik ten Hag has told his Manchester United team to "energise" their fans with an electric display against Bayern Munich

With the Red Devils needing victory – and even then still crossing theri fingers to qualify – the United boss said: "Yeah, it's clear. I think Old Trafford is not a nice place to come for an opponent, and we are aware of it. It starts with us.

"You hope that the fans, we are together. As long as I am here, I always have had that feeling that we are absolutely together. There is a very strong bond between the team and the fans.

"They are always behind us, even when we have big setbacks, they stay behind us, they support us, so we are very happy with that.

"But we have to take the responsibility. It starts with us. We have to energise them."
