ANGEL GOMES has revealed that his mentor at Manchester United is close childhood pal Marcus Rashford.

The 18-year-old is one of United's golden academy players and has played three times for The Reds since his debut in 2017 when he replaced Wayne Rooney against Crystal Palace.

In a recent interview with SoccerBible, the midfielder said: "Marcus Rashford [is my mentor] I'd say.

"I was in digs with him since U12 level through to U16 and a little bit of U18s.

"We grew up together and he's gone on to be such a big part of the first team.

"He's always been someone I've looked up to as a role model.

"He's two age groups above me so I would always see him around, and when we were in digs we'd watch videos of players and that sort of stuff.

"Seeing what he has achieved only makes me want to work harder.

"I've seen him go through the academy and into the first team and he's done that by working extremely hard."

Rashford has made name for himself at the legendary club by scoring 27 goals since 2015.

It's not only United that have been impressed with the 21-year-old with England also putting the forward at centre stage.

Gareth Southgate included him in his World Cup squad where the star scored in the penalty shoot-out against Colombia.

The player's quality is shining through to academy star Gomes who is primed to follow in his mentors footsteps.

Nani, United legend and Gomes' godfather, once said that the youngster was The Red Devil's "next star".

Gomes highlighted Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo as players he idolised when he was growing up.

He said: "They were confident players who played with freedom and that's what I enjoy most."

The player has already scored multiple goals for England's youth teams and he is set to be a key player in United's first-team outfit.

On the star's debut he became the youngest player to represent The Reds since 1953.

He made his FA Cup debut replacing mentor Rashford against Yeovil Town in 2017.
