DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE'S FA Cup clash with Salford City had to be stopped while medics rushed to a fan who had collapsed in the crowd.

The match, being broadcast live on itv4, was held up for around six minutes as doctors attended to a man that suffered a fit in the stands.

Broadcaster itv confirmed that staff were able to assist the individual, who is believed to have also suffered a head injury before being taken to hospital.

Dagenham have since confirmed that the supporter is in a stable condition.

The first round tie then got back underway, with Salford winning courtesy of a third minute header by Jordan Turnbull.

There were ten minutes of stoppage time following the delay in proceedings, but the National League hosts were unable to find an equaliser.

Social media was awash with well wishes for the unwell supporter.

One wrote: "Best wishes to the supporter. Well done to the players for getting assistant promptly."

FOOTY BREAK

Why are there no Premier League games on this weekend and when does it return?

While another added: "Whatever the issue what a quick response by all hopefully the fan is okay."

He was taken away on a stretcher before play resumed.

Salford – 19th in League Two – had to thank 'keeper Conor Ripley for a string of fine saves in East London.

The visitors made their flying start after just three minutes when defender Turnbull crashed home a powerful close-range header from Liam Shephard's left-wing corner.

Daggers – eighth in the National League – threatened for the first time when Mo Sagaf put a dangerously whipping 20-yarder just over in the 15th minute.

Home skipper Angelo Balanta then forced a good diving save from Ripley with low 31st minute drive.

And Ripley then did superbly after 37 minutes to punch clear from Matt Robinson's six-yard header after Sam Ling's right-wing cross.

The busy Ripley had twice more to produce heroics before the break to stop stinging long-rangers from Robinson and Myles Weston.

Sagaf hooked over again for Dagenham from 20 yards in the 61st minute after a tight opening to the second-half.

Mauro Vilhete's curling attempt from the left was comfortably held by Ripley in the 76th minute.

Then there was a late escape for Salford when Callum Reynolds' back post header in the 84th minute was blocked on the line by Ripley.
