MANCHESTER UNITED are favourites to sign Brighton's Ben White.

That's according to bookmakers Coral, who've slashed their odds on White arriving at Old Trafford during the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old was previously a 3/1 chance but that price has been shortened to 7/4 over the last 24 hours.

Liverpool, who were previously favourites, are close behind at 2/1.

Jurgen Klopp and Co. are seeking reinforcements to provide cover for injured duo Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

Premier League trio Arsenal, Leeds and Tottenham are all locked together at 9/2.

The shift in odds could be linked to recent reports that the Red Devils have intensified their pursuit of White.

They've added the Poole-born talent to their list of potential targets that include RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano and Real Madrid's Raphael Varane.

White has impressed for the Seagulls at centre-back and defensive midfield since returning from a season-long loan at Elland Road.

And his versatility is something that's said to have impressed chiefs at the Theatre of Dreams.

Coral’s John Hill said: "Manchester United are probably going to upgrade their defensive options in January and our betting suggests Ben White could be top of their shopping list.

"White has consistently performed well in the Premier League for Brighton so it is no surprise that the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham are also prominent in the betting to sign the defender next month."

United restated the urge to sign a defender to partner captain Harry Maguire over the summer with several unwanted CB's already on their books.

And the club may have to offload one of Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Axel Tuanzebe or Eric Bailly before making a new addition.
