BARCELONA are looking to edge closer to a third straight La Liga title as they host Leganes in their first match back at the Nou Camp TONIGHT.

The Catalans will be strong favourites against their visitors, who sit second bottom and were severely damaged by Barca's emergency signing of their star striker Martin Braithwaite outside the transfer window.

    Here's what I wrote after I last commentated on a game. It was Liverpool's clash with Atletico Madrid in March.

    Who would've know the last few months would play out the way they did?

    Anyway, it's just good to be back. Kick-off minutes away, the players are out.

  • CLEAR THE DECKS

    The early games are finished, by the way.

    Villarreal beat Mallorca 1-0 with an early strike from Carlos Bacca.

    And Getafe’s clash with Espanyol ended in a highly-forgettable goalless draw.

    That clears the stage for Barcelona now, kick-off fast approaching.

  • SPANISH FEAST

    As I alluded to earlier, it’s a busy midweek in Spain’s top flight.

    There was a double bill last night with Sevilla drawing at Levante and Real Betis being held by Granada.

    There’s two games currently going on – Getafe are in action against Espanyol and Villarreal hosting Mallorca.

    Three more games tomorrow night, including Atletico Madrid’s trip to Osasuna and then two more matches on Thursday night.

    That’s when Real Madrid play, Thursday night, at home to Valencia. Tough one that.

  • LA LIGA'S BACK!

    Hola, buenas dias. Good evening one and all.

    Welcome to our coverage of Barcelona’s clash with Leganes tonight.

    La Liga returned five night ago after the coronavirus pandemic ground sport to a halt, and Barcelona are playing their second game since the return.

    Quique Setien’s men returned from the lockdown with a 4-0 thrashing of Real Mallorca at the weekend.

    Goals from Arturo Vidal, Martin Braithwaite, Jordi Alba and (of course) Lionel Messi made it a thumping win for the Catalans.

    And with Real Madrid not in next action until Thursday night, Barca can go five points clear in La Liga with victory tonight.

    Just before lockdown, Barcelona were beaten by Real Madrid in El Clasico and playing catch-up in the title race.

    But with 10 games to go the Catalan side are in pole position to win their third straight Spanish title and a 27th overall.

    Kick-off is at 10pm Spanish time, 9pm if you’re following my coverage from the UK.

    It’s a busy evening and midweek bill in general tonight so I’ll do my best to keep you up to date with the big picture.
