ANDER HERRERA has revealed that Manchester United's delay in offering him a new deal prompted him to decide to leave for PSG.
The Spanish midfielder joined the French champs on a free this summer, and admitted he wasn't sure what his role would be if he stayed at United.
While boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperately trying to shift out some dead wood from Old Trafford, Herrera was one player the fans rated.
And speaking to Marca, the 29-year-old revealed the club dithered over a new contract that forced his hand.
But he was more than complimentary about Solskjaer.
He said: "I don't like looking to the past too much, but there were differences regarding the project and my importance within it.
Their offer arrived late and by then I had already made the decision to play in Paris
"I was very happy there, I have a lot to thank the club, fans and Solskjaer for. He did a lot to convince me to stay, but things didn't happen like that.
"Their offer arrived late and by then I had already made the decision to play in Paris.
"I'm very happy today because I made that decision.
"I'm enjoying this magnificent city and this beautiful stadium, it has a glamour that few can match."
But according to Goal, it wasn't only the delay in contract offer – but the fact that Herrera wanted £350,000-a-week.
That would have made him United's second-highest earning player behind flop Alexis Sanchez.
Herrera made only 27 appearances in all competitions for United as they ended a miserable season in sixth position.
He made 189 appearances for the Old Trafford side after joining from Athletic Bilbao for £29million in 2014 – scoring 20 goals and grabbing 27 assists.
