A widow who left This Morning viewers in tears last week after telling how ‘lonely’ she felt during the show’s phone-in, has warmed hearts after leaving her house for the first time in three months.
Margaret, 80, from Devon, whose only child lives abroad, melted hearts last week after revealing on the show’s phone-in how isolated she was after her dog, Teddy, died, and that she would give anything to just go for a walk with someone on Christmas Day.
After being inundated with offers of friendship on social media, presenter Josie Gibson took Margaret out for a socially distanced walk this weekend, which the pensioner told ‘made all the difference’.
Viewers were left in tears once again after Margaret told she feels ‘wonderful’ after spending the weekend with ‘lovely’ Josie, and the show’s producer Will, who she said was ‘lovely to look at’.
Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield over the phone this morning she said: ‘A simple walk with someone over Christmas, a cup of tea outside it makes all the difference.’
On her walk Josie, 35, asked her: ‘This is your first walk out?’
‘Yes for three months’, replied Margaret, ‘Ever since I lost Teddy. I’ve broken the spell, now I’m with you.
You can’t do this on your own, you have to have company and a purpose and this is what elderly people need.’

‘How good did this walk make you feel today?’, asked Josie, to which the pensioner replied: ‘Wonderful’.
Viewers quickly took to Twitter to call the segment ‘so nice and heartwarming’ , and praised the 80-year-olds glamorous appearance.
One said: ‘Aww Margaret seems a lot more cheerful now. Lovely’.
‘Love glam Margaret!!’, wrote another.

Speaking this morning, Margaret told how the visit from Josie and producer Will helped ‘get her out of her slump’ and that she’ll continue walking down her lane over the Christmas period.
After being asked how she is now, she said: ‘Oh fine, and wonderful Josie brought me out of my slump. She’s just a big warm personality and Will, he was lovely. People were stopping him asking about his space age camera.’
‘Today I’m going to walk down my little lane with my old stray cat and I haven’t done that since I lost Teddy.
On her walk Josie, 35, asked her: ‘This is your first walk out?’. ‘Yes for three months’, replied Margaret, ‘Ever since I lost Teddy, I’ve broken the spell, now i’m with you.

‘It’s definitely a move forward and I shall be doing it over Christmas and Josie was wonderful.’
‘It seems like you’ve taken a shine to Will!’, said Holly, to which she replied: ‘He was handsome, he was lovely when I was looking at him.’

The presenters revealed that Margaret has now been contacted by Age UK, who added her to their UK telephone buddy service, and will help her socialise more once lockdown is over.
‘They’ve been very good, after lockdown they’ll help me join a few clubs.
‘It was pretty bad last time, but i’m just one of thousands and I must thank you two for a wonderful start to Christmas.’
