In June, the British royal family will meet the Trump Family. Both countries are gearing up for the historic visit of the President of The United States to Buckingham Palace for an official state visit.

The meeting will include Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry, among others. However, one person that will be notably absent is Meghan Markle.

We have all the details on the upcoming banquet and why Markle will not attend, to satisfy your burning curiosity.

What will the state visit look like?

The White House announced on April 23 the president and first lady had accepted the invitation of Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to visit the United Kingdom.

According to the announcement, “This visit will reaffirm the steadfast and special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.”

The White House and Buckingham Palace are still discussing the final schedule, but it’s expected that Trump will join the royal family for a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace.

People reported Middleton is expected to wear a tiara for the visit. Possibly the Lover’s Knot tiara, which was a favorite of the late Princess Diana.

A White House official confirmed that Trump’s children, Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, Tiffany Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Eric Trump are planning to attend as well.

Many are anxious for the younger generations, Trump’s children with Prince William, Middleton, and Prince Harry, to meet. In fact, Express reported that a source close to Trump, says he is pushing for his children to meet the younger royals.

Prince Harry will join Trump for a private lunch

Before the State Banquet, the queen is hosting a private lunch for Trump and his wife, Melania. It’s been reported that Prince Harry has been invited to join the lunch, but it’s not expected that Markle will join them.

Harry has not been a part of many state visits in the past. The only visit he’s attended so far was a visit with Spain’s monarch.

However, according to CNN, a royal source says that going forward, they hope to see the Duke and Duchess of Sussex participate in more state events.

Why won’t Meghan Markle attend the state banquet?

Even though Markle is an American citizen, and so would have been perfect for bringing the two countries together, she is still on maternity leave after the birth of Baby Archie.

Markle has not returned to her royal duties yet and is not expected to for several months. Although she is scheduled to be at some big events, such as the Queen’s Birthday Parade.

Middleton had similar maternity leaves after the birth of each of her three children. She spent almost six months home with her new babies before returning to royal duties, although she also attended big events, such as Harry and Markle’s wedding when Prince Louie was only about a month old.

Prince Harry and Prince William have both opted out of paternity leave, although it is common for men in the U.K. to take time off after the birth of a child. Harry returned to work just three days after Archie made his debut.

It’s unfortunate that we won’t have the opportunity to see Markle in a tiara, along with Middleton for this historic event. In fact, Markle hasn’t had the opportunity to wear a tiara since her wedding.

However, Harry and Markle seem like a strong couple, and so we’re sure that there will be many more state events in the future. And Markle will be stunning in the royal jewels.
