Princess Diana was known for many things. Other than being married to the Prince of Wales, her kind heart and generosity towards others is where she gained her notoriety from around the world.
Another thing that the young princess was known for was her ability to stand up for what she believed in. When it came to doing what she thought was best, she was not afraid to go against the royal rules and traditions.
Compared to the other royals in the family, Princess Diana was somewhat of a free spirit. She loved doing things her own way, and at times, seemed as if she didn’t care if her actions bothered or angered her royal in-laws.
Many people thought when Princess Diana had married Prince Charles, he had called all of the shots at the wedding and that the royal family did all of the planning and preparations. However, in true Princess Diana fashion, there were a few decisions that the princess had made about the wedding that may not have been very popular with the rest of her family.

Back in the early 80s, it seemed that all anyone was talking about was Prince Charles’ new romantic love interest: Lady Diana Spencer. The two met while Prince Charles was dating Lady Diana’s older sister: Lady Sarah Spencer. The relationship with Prince Charles and Lady Sarah was short-lived and soon, the young prince had his eye on another Spencer daughter.
It may seem kind of odd that Prince Charles would decide to pursue a romantic relationship with Lady Diana after breaking up with her older sister. But there have been several reports that state that Lady Sarah was actually okay with the new romance and has even given herself credit for Prince Charles and Lady Diana’s relationship.
After a very short courtship — the two had only seen each other 12 times — a 32-year-old Prince Charles asked the 19-year-old Lady Diana to be his wife. Six months later, on July 29, 1981, the couple were married in front of friends, family, and 750 million well-wishers around the world at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
The young Lady Diana looked beautiful in her wedding dress as she walked down the long aisle to her soon-to-be-husband. After the two were married, millions of well-wishers swooned when they witnessed the two sharing their first kiss as husband and wife on the balcony on the Buckingham Palace.

People Magazine recently read several excerpts from late journalist and diarist, Kenneth Rose’s personal journal. In the journal, Rose had chronicled several different events in Princess Diana’s life.
One event that was especially notable was the day that she married Prince Charles. According to Rose, Princess Diana’s father, John Spencer, was given around 50 seats at the wedding that he could use to invite any friends and family of is choosing. Rose then said that when Prince Diana’s father brought her a list of people he would have like to invite, she had “crossed out all the family who had not bothered to come to the weddings of her sisters!”
Rose did not elaborate on how Princess Diana’s family felt about her decision, but when it came to standing up for the ones that she loved, Princess Diana usually didn’t seem to care about what others thought.
How long were Prince Charles and Princess Diana married?
Not long after Princess Diana and Prince Charles were married, Prince Charles’ eye started to roam to his ex-girlfriend, Camilla Parker Bowles. Soon, there were rumors that suggested that Prince Charles and Parker Bowles were having an affair.
While Princess Diana had also suspected that Prince Charles was having an affair, the Prince of Wales went to great lengths to ensure the Princess of Wales never suspected a thing.
However, Prince Charles was only able to keep his secret for a short time. Eventually, Princess Diana — and the rest of the world — found out that Prince Charles was, in fact, having an affair with Parker Bowles.
Prince Charles and Princess Diana separated in 1992 and their divorce was finalized in 1996. Although Princess Diana had her fair share of ups and downs when it came to her love life, she was still a firm believer in true love and thought that it was something that needed to be protected at all costs.
A couple of years before her untimely death, Princess Diana had told the BBC that she had given her son, Prince William, a very solid piece of advice when it comes to love. She had told him: “If you find someone you love in life, you must hang onto it and look after it. And if you were lucky enough to find someone who loves you, then one must protect it.”
