It’s Pimty Tare! Mother is left baffled by mispelled banner from B&M that should have read ‘Party Time’ – but social media loves the mistake

  • The mother-of-two, from Kent, shared a photograph of it to her Facebook page
  • It was shared nearly 2,000 times and liked almost double the amount

A birthday banner bought from British retailer B&M has sent internet users wild after it celebrated ‘Pimty Tare’ instead of ‘Party Time’.

Mother-of-two Fran Taylor, from Tonbridge in Kent, discovered the misspelled bunting when preparing for her son’s fourth birthday.

Sharing an image of it to her Facebook page, she wrote: ‘That’s right, it’s Pimty Tare in this house.

‘Thanks for nothing B&M Stores, you big pile of useless cheap s****. At least he’s only four tomorrow so he won’t f****** realise.’

The stay-at-home mother, who is behind parenting blog Whinge Whinge Wine, was soon inundated with comments, with the post being shared nearly 2,000 times and liked almost 4,000.

One social media user wrote: ‘I love this bunting! Pimty tare definitely sounds fun. Think @bmstores should bring out a whole new range.’

Another enthusiastic individual said: ‘I’m using Pimty Tare in my every day vocabulary now. I love it!’

‘[Your son is] lucky! Nobody else has had a Pimty Tare!’ a third commented.

One party goods company has already started capitalising on the viral post, with online-based The Paper Concept stocking environmentally friendly decorations embellished with ‘Pimty Tare’.

But despite the humorous responses to the banner, B&M quickly got in touch to apologise for the mistake.

The company said: ‘First of all, we hope your son has a brilliant 4th birthday pimty – they grow up too quickly.

‘Secondly, thanks for letting us know about this. We’re sorry to see this – not sure how it’s happened, so we’ll look into it for you.

‘We know it’s too late for you, but your sacrifice may allow us to save others… it’s a noble deed.’

The firm offered to send out a gift to make up for the error, before signing off: ‘Thanks, the big pile of useless cheap s****, B&M.’

Fran, who has been running her blog for more than three years, said: ‘That was nice, given it wasn’t really a complaint as such. It just made us laugh.

She added: ‘We are definitely keeping the banner – it’s a new family tradition.’

Despite some calls to re-thread the banner so it would be spelt correctly, Fran said she had been drinking Pimm’s in the sunshine and refused to do this.

She added: ‘To the humourless b******* pointing out that one could rethread it … No. Shan’t. And you’re not invited to my pimty.’
