Mother captures shocking moment £1 Primark candle EXPLODED after just 45 minutes of use as she warns the bargain glass product should be taken off the shelves

  • Chelsea Pavey, 29, of Essex, purchased the glass candle from Primark on Sunday
  • But two days later, the bargain product exploded after just 45 minutes of use
  • The item is filmed with an erratic, tall flame, before a crackling sound is heard

A mother-of-three has warned that a £1 Primark candle should be pulled off the shelves after it exploded the first time she lit it.

Chelsea Pavey, 29, from Maldon, who works for Essex Police, purchased the bargain product at her local store the Primark at intu Lakeside, on Sunday.

But footage filmed by the parent two days later captures the glass candle bursting into a ball of flames before cracking to pieces, after just 45 minutes of use.

The item is filmed with an erratic, tall flame, before a crackling sound is heard and a piece of the candle shoots across the cabinet it rested on.

A shocked Chelsea, who filmed the flame to make Primark aware of how dangerous the product was, is then seen quickly stopping the footage.

Photographs captured after the incident show the candle completely split in half, with the clear glass now a dark black colour.

Speaking to FEMAIL, Chelsea, who is mother to a five-year-old, three-year-old and six-months old, said: ‘I called Primark when the incident happened, the candle had been lit for only 45 to 60 minutes.

‘I explained I think they needed to be taken off the shelves until this is looked into but I was told that wouldn’t be happening and head office would need to investigate.

‘I have contacted them with no reply as of yet,’ the concerned mother added. ‘I won’t be buying candles from Primark ever again. This may be bad luck and a fluke as some have said but what if it’s not, my family aren’t worth that risk.

‘I was shocked that it did so much damage and I don’t think people are aware, if it helps one person think twice about using these until there’s an investigation at least then I could of helped someone.

‘I have a massive fear of fire,’ she admitted. ‘I left the room to run a bath after burning the candle for around 45 minutes when I heard it crackling.

‘I thought “something is clearly not right”. I came back to check and the flame was really high so I recorded it to show Primark, that’s when it exploded.’

MailOnline has contacted Primark for comment.
