Harry and Meghan’s popularity ‘waning’ in America says expert

After King Charles was crowned in a once-in-a-lifetime Coronation ceremony, Meghan Markle has also been crowned the “most popular” royal on the internet according to new research.

Meghan has been discovered to be the most searched member of the Royal Family, as Google search interest for the Duchess has far surpassed every other member of the Royal Family, and even beat the King by over 20 points.

Meghan’s current search score is 28 points while in second place is her husband Prince Harry at 14 points.

Princess Kate is third in popularity according to the data with 10 points, followed by Charles at eight points.

However, both Prince William and Queen Camilla tie in last place with five points at the least searched members of the Royal Family.

This research was conducted by Bonus Insider, a betting agency, in the run-up to the Coronation in order to focus on the popularity of Royal Family members.

David from Bonus Insider said: “Interestingly, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, the only Royal Family member who did not attend the ceremony in London to see Charles ascend the throne, is the most Google-searched royalty with a current score of 28 points.

“This contrasts her low public approval of just 23% according to YouGov.”

The results come at a time a recent survey by YouGov revealed that Meghan and Harry seem to have a low approval rating amongst the British public.

Meghan was found to have an approval rating of 23 percent amongst the British public, while Prince Harry had a popularity rating of 29 percent.

However, a royal expert has said Meghan and Harry are “far more popular in America” as they are seen as a “modern couple” who are dealing with “modern issues”.

Clive Irving, author of The Last Queen spoke to the Express and explained the Sussexes have gained a lot of favour in the US.

He said: “Both of them are involved in issues that really matter but Harry in particular pays a lot of attention to the care of former military people that have suffered from various stresses.”

According to Irving, Harry’s care and attention to veterans had struck a chord with Americans and has been celebrated for helping people formerly in the military deal with civilian life.

Mr Irving added: “Americans have come to see the monarchy much more like Harry and Meghan than Charles and Camilla.”
