Martha Stewart has sparked a fierce debate online after she revealed that she slaughtered a deer that had been living on her property for the last year, as well as her roosters – which she described as ‘such good friends’ – in order to make some homemade dog food.

The chef, 82, left many people on the web outraged after she opened up about some of the things that she uses to feed her two French bulldogs, Creme Brulee and Bete Noire, and two Chow Chows, Emperor Han and Empress Qin.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, the TV personality explained that she makes their food herself by combining a slew of vegetables, quinoa, salmon carcasses, chicken, and deer meat.

But when she admitted that she had gotten the meat by killing a buck that had ‘found his way’ onto her farm a year ago, social media users branded her as ‘ruthless,’ ‘savage,’ and even ‘disturbing’ for using an animal that ‘trusted her property as a safe haven’ for dog food.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, the TV personality explained that she makes their food herself by combining a slew of vegetables, quinoa, salmon carcasses, chicken, and deer meat

But when she admitted that she had gotten the meat by killing her roosters – which she described as ‘such good friends’ – and a buck that had ‘found his way’ onto her farm a year ago, social media users branded her as ‘ruthless,’ ‘savage,’ and even ‘disturbing’

‘Today was dog food day – although it takes a lot longer than a day to make our type of healthy farm to bowl food that my lovely dogs have gotten used to,’ Martha began in her post.

‘[We] started with the buck deer that’s been living here since he found his way in a year ago, slowly cooked the cubed meat until tender.

‘Then [we] harvested the old roosters who have been such good friends and made such tasty poached chicken.’

The businesswoman explained that she then headed to a local seafood restaurant to pick up some ‘fresh salmon carcasses,’ which she poached.

Next she ‘cut up’ a fresh potiron pumpkin and steamed it until it was ‘soft’ and roasted nine ‘large sweet potatoes.’

‘I cut up a big bowl of garden carrots and boiled them in salmon broth along with broccoli, frozen peas, and [five pounds of] quinoa,’ she continued.

‘I mixed [it all] in giant stainless steel bowls and then processed it coarsely in the Cuisinart.’

In the end, Martha said she was able to make around 44 quarts of food for her pups.

‘I cut up a big bowl of garden carrots and boiled them in salmon broth along with broccoli, frozen peas, and [five pounds of] quinoa,’ she explained in her Instagram post

She said she also ‘cut up’ a fresh potiron pumpkin and steamed it until it was ‘soft’ and roasted nine ‘large sweet potatoes’

‘I mixed [it all] in giant stainless steel bowls and then processed it coarsely in the Cuisinart’ continued the TV personality

Discussing the meat she said: ‘[We] started with the deer that’s been living here since he found his way in a year ago. Then [we] harvested the old roosters who have been such good friends’

‘Now, [we] transfer everything to the freezer and clean up the mess,’ she concluded. ‘Dogs are very, very happy and we are very tired. Worth it.’

To accompany her caption, Martha shared a slew of photos that showcased almost every step of the process.

One showed the veggies cooking in the broth, while another featured the ingredients all combined in a large bowl.

A third picture saw over 40 Tupperware containers filled to the brim with the finished dog food.

But the 82-year-old faced fierce fury over her post, with many people taking to the comment section to share their outrage over her killing the deer and the roosters.

‘You killed the deer that found its way to your home? And your “friends” the chickens? Sounds like a real fairy tale over there,’ one user wrote.

‘I had to read it several times to make sure I understood. Wow, just wow,’ another added.

Someone else said, ‘The deer who trusted that your property was a safe haven… And to eat your chickens? The Hunger Games farm.’

‘That sounds hideous,’ read a third comment, while a fourth simply said, ‘She’s ruthless.’

‘This is just too weird and psychotic, our friend the deer is now cooking and also our friends the roosters are delicious,’ scathed a different person.

‘Not really in alignment with today’s more compassionate, or perhaps even enlightened world. I felt disturbed reading this.’

‘I thought it was a joke at first or something I wasn’t grasping,’ admitted someone else.

‘Am I reading this correctly?’ asked another shocked user. ‘You killed the buck deer that has been calling your place home for the last year and put him in the dog food?’

‘I’m not vegetarian but I’m not eating the roosters I call my friends nor the deer living on my property for a year,’ commented another follower.

A different person joked, ‘Did you cook your grandchildren too?’ while someone else questioned, ‘Why does Martha get to be the one to decide when it’s time for her “friends” to die?’

‘Martha is a savage. Here she is talking about making friends with woodland animals and then feeding them to her dogs,’ read another comment.

‘Her house is like the one made of candy in Hansel and Gretel – except that it isn’t children she’s after but the animals that live around her home.’

Others, however, were on Martha’s side and fiercely defender her.

‘Welcome to reality… Why do most people keep farm animals? And deer conservation is necessary to keep the population healthy,’ one person pointed out. ‘[It] controls the population and health.’

‘She’s a farmer. What do you think happens on a farm,’ another defender wrote.

‘These animals likely died far more humanely than the animals who die every day to make processed commercial dog food,’ said someone else.

A different user replied: ‘Jesus Christ on handlebars… Y’all even know what farms DO? Or how overrun America’s deer population is because you killed all of the predators? Get. A. Grip.’

Earlier this year, she announced that she’d be selling her own line of dog food on Chewy.com, which comes in six different flavors

‘I love this. Helping wildlife conservation by hunting. Respect and kindness for farm animals until they’re utilized for a practical purpose,’ someone else praised.

‘I’m shocked and appalled by how disconnected and naïve so many people are on here about meat,’ a different person commented.

‘Actually look at factory farming for a minute. Martha’s version is humane and treating animals with dignity.’

Martha has long been open about how she feeds her pets fresh, homemade food rather than processed dog chow.

‘I’ve been preparing my own dog food for years. It has many benefits – fewer preservatives and additives, more varied and better ingredients, and, of course, more of what I know my dogs like to eat,’ she wrote in a blog post in 2022.

Earlier this year, she announced that she’d be selling her own line of dog food on Chewy.com, which comes in six different flavors.
