Kate Middleton and Prince William have been married since April 29, 2011. Speaking to Express.co.uk, body language expert Judi James commented on their gestures together.
The pair may have known each other for 10 years before marrying, but Kate had mostly stayed out of the public eye.
It wasn’t until their engagement was announced in November 2010 that the royal gave her first interview with Prince William.
After the wedding, she took on the role of the Duchess of Cambridge and was given a senior working position.
The mother-of-three has joined Prince William regularly to make public appearances.
Over the last few months, they have gradually stepped out more often as coronavirus lockdown restrictions ease.
When making such appearances, Judi commented on their body language.
She explained they have started to show subtle signs of affection that are not always common with couples who have been married for so long.
“For a long-term married couple, their connection signals make them appear even more openly romantic together than what is usual,” the expert commented.
“William keeps close to Kate and often guides her gently in front of him, showing off he is proud of his wife with rare public affection.”
The Cambridges have been busy royals this year and it is thought that they are taking on an increasing amount of responsibility within the Royal Family.
Prince William’s gestures with his wife could show he is proud of how she handles her role.
Judi continued: “William’s hand gestures suggest he gently steers Kate to walk ahead with a sense of pride and admiration.
“His tactile behaviour includes another affectionate back-touch with a splayed hand.”
Both Kate and Prince William appear to have shown more public affection in recent engagements, the expert suggested.
Judi said the Duchess of Cambridge’s body language shows genuine happiness to be with her husband.
“Kate’s excited eye expression and her wide, dimpled smile suggest genuine, congruent pleasure at being in her husband’s company,” she added.
“His beaming and at times slightly shy smile plus his softened features do suggest he’s very happily in love.
“It’s their facial expressions as well as their mirroring and their intense and mutual attention rituals with one another that suggest they are presenting as romantic royals as well.
“The couple’s body language does seem to define them as a true royal power couple.”
