Mother’s Day, otherwise known as Mothering Sunday, is on March 14 this year. Many sons and daughters around the country can finally meet with their mothers to mark the special day, thanks to the Government’s decision to dial back Covid restrictions. Some people will therefore have the chance to hand them a present and card in person, something they couldn’t do last year. However many will also still be apart from their families, with people only able to meet their mums if they live locally – and even then, only for a walk.

Although for every mother around the world, Mother’s Day is a deeply personal event.

People will get together with their families and celebrate everything their mother has done for them.

But sometimes, they may need a hand deciding what to write in a card.

Thankfully, there is a legion of quotes, poems and messages people can use for some extra inspiration.

The best quotes for Mother’s Day

Maya Angelou

“My mother is so full of joy and life. I am her child.

“And that is better than being the child of anyone else in the world.”

Abraham Lincoln

“I remember my mother’s prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life.”

Jodi Picoult

“My Mother: She is beautiful, softened at the edges and tempered with a spine of steel. I want to grow old and be like her.”

Erma Bombeck

“When your mother asks, ‘Do you want a piece of advice?’ It is a mere formality.

“It doesn’t matter if you answer yes or no. You’re going to get it anyway.”
