Viral bus driver makes over $108k in retirement fundraiser
There is an outpouring of support for a “talented and hardworking” man who worked at his minimum wage job for more than 40 years – and was given a measly barbeque on the last day before his retirement.
John, whose last name and location have not been disclosed, worked at an unidentified company for 42 years, finally retiring in his 70s.
But one of his co-workers was less than impressed when, after such a long period of service, John was given just a certificate and thrown a barbeque.
Posting a video online, one of his co-workers wrote: “Today is my co-worker’s last day, he worked for this company for 42 years making minimum wage.
“The company only threw him a BBQ and gave him a certificate.”
The coworker said John commuted on the bus everyday to work, and said he loves working so much that he didn’t want to retire.
The GoFundMe organiser, Sonia, described John’s unwavering dedication to his work.
She wrote “Rain or shine, he will make it to work” and said he is “extremely dependable”, adding: “It doesn’t matter how much we would suggest to take his vacation days, he would still want to work!”

Asking people to donate, Sonia said: “Can we give John a little something more for his retirement? Or maybe just some positive vibes and words of encouragement to get him through the rest of his days.
“He has no wife or kids however he does have a nephew whom he loves dearly.
“It would be nice to give him some kind of company or something to do so he knows that he’s special and loved.”
The fundraiser has raised in excess of $36,000 so far, with people from as far away as Australia and New Zealand donating to fund John’s retirement.
