We may have finished binge watching Bridgerton season two, but the cast members have made quite the impression on us. Simone Ashley, who plays Kate Sharma on the Netflix show, has been the subject of all our desires (aka Instagram stalking) in recent weeks – and her grid never fails to provide beauty inspo.
Though the 27 year old mostly posts glamorous snaps of her makeup looks and long, flowing hair, this week she’s surprising us with a post-haircut selfie where it’s clearly visible that she’s opted for a much more edgy chop.
Uploading the image to her Instagram Stories, Simone poses for the camera with her freshly cut tresses. Though her hair looks like it was yet to be blow-dried, we can see she’s had face framing, choppy layers cut in, and a few inches of length cut off the main body of her hair.
The new style looks like an “octopus” cut: a redesigned mullet where more length is added to the bottom of the cut while the hair on the top maintains its full weight. The look was brought to mainstream attention last year after the fashionable likes ofBillie Eilishand Squid Games’HoYeon Jung(also known as Player 067) pioneered them on social media and Netflix.
In its 2022 trends report,Pinterest also predicted that this cut will be one of the most requested hairstyles amongst Gen Z-ers and TikTokers, with searches for “octopus cuts” doubling on Pinterest in the month of February. The report also showed twice the number of searches for “short hair mohawk” and a 190% increase in queries about “mullet hairstyles”.
We never thought mullets or haircuts named after sea creatures would take off, but if anyone is going to inspire us to get a shaggy cut, it’s Mrs Bridgerton.
This isn’t the first time Ashley has helped set a hair trend. The actress has also been pioneering a very 90s-era look recently: baby braids. Also loved by the likes of Hailey Bieber, Margot Robbie, Bella Hadid and Rihanna, these small face-framing braids are set to take this festival season by storm.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more beauty inspo coming from Ashley!
