Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew couldn't have looked more in love as they said their vows and became husband and wife.

Their royal wedding was a huge affair filled with all the same tradition and extravagance we saw for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry .

But the couple broke a big rule on their wedding day and deliberately went against against a strict piece of guidance they were given.

When they were waving to crowds on the Buckingham Palace balcony they shared a romantic kiss to the delight of well-wishers below.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey in 2011, Sarah revealed they were advised against this, but decided to do it anyway.

The TV legend said: "That was one hell of a kiss.

Sarah then replied: "Everyone told us not to kiss on the balcony, so we did it deliberately.

"We both were so in love."

Fergie and Andrew weren't the first royals to kiss on the balcony, and Diana and Charles started the tradition five years previously on their special day.

However their kiss appeared much more passionate.

The balcony kiss has now become a highlight of royal weddings, with Kate and William, Meghan and Harry, and Eugenie and Jack all sharing a quick smooch for the cheering crowds.

In the interview Sarah also described their whirlwind romance.

She said: "We had three dinner dates one weekend and we got married"

"I absolutely worshipped him."

Despite their powerful love for each other things didn't work out and the couple split in 1996.

However they have always remained good friends and have raised their two daughters – Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie – together.

They have appeared at several royal events together, including Royal Ascot , together and are always seen laughing and joking in each others company.
