Game night at Martin Short’s house sounds amazing.
The “SCTV” alum regaled a select crowd at Asylum NYC on Wednesday night at a special live “Stars in the House” event with the details of a parlor game played at Short’s Pacific Palisades digs.
The premise is an audition for a 30-second coffee commercial where the partygoers — which that night included Tom Hanks and Steve Martin — take a sip of coffee and intone, “Mmm, that’s a good cup of coffee.”
But Martin, 73, warned the crowd that it’s actually a lot harder than it sounds. The clear winner on the evening in question, as it turns out, was Hanks, who blew the crowd away with his “subtle yet believable” delivery. (Sounds like this “Tom Hanks” character could have quite the career!)
Seth Rudesky and James Wesley hosted the evening to celebrate a milestone for their charity efforts. The couple, who began live-streaming concerts, reunions and game nights in March 2020, has now raised over a million dollars for the Actor’s Fund.
Also, there to join in the fun were Chita Rivera, “RuPaul Drag Race” alum Nina West, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and Kristin Chenoweth.
Beth Leavel brought down the house with a rousing performance of “Broadway Baby.” Ironically, the Broadway vet — who originated the role of Dee Dee Allen in “The Prom” on stage, only to have Meryl Streep play the character in the big-screen version — is currently slated to play Streep’s Miranda Priestly in the musical adaption of “The Devil Wears Prada.”
“Hairspray” composer Marc Shaiman was on hand to announce donations and also brought up his husband Louis Mirabal, a twenty-year Navy veteran, to basically show off how handsome he is.
Well done, Marc.
