IF our kids had it their way, they'd happily live off a diet of chocolate, crisps and sweets – so we can't blame any parents for trying to liven up mealtimes in any way possible.

Earlier this month, TikTok star Alex Bewicke revealed how her "mini eggs" recipe is a hit with her household – and it didn't take long for other mums to praise the "genius" idea.

Insisting that "every parent needs to try this", Alex starts by freezing eggs overnight and then removing the shell the following morning.

Next, Alex cut the frozen raw egg into bitesize pieces and fried it while her toddler watched on.

She explained: "You put it into the frying pan and it creates really cool mini eggs.

"My toddler absolutely loves it and I hope your kids do too!"

But while the clip has racked up over 1.3 MILLION "likes", concerned viewers warned the cooking hack could be extremely dangerous.

One commented: "Emergency Room doctor and child safety expert here. This is not a safe way to prepare eggs.

"They should not be frozen in their shells. The FDA [Food & Drug Administration] warns against this."

Another added: "My friend did this and his toddler got food poisoning."

Coming up with a suitable compromise, a third wrote: "Could you not just boil and cut it the same way, literally gives you the same thing?"

Shedding light on the issue, the experts at British Lions Eggs say on their website: "Each egg needs to be cracked out of its shell. The egg white and yolk will expand when frozen so if left intact this could damage or break the shell.

"Only freeze eggs which are fresh and in date. Frozen eggs in any form need to be fully thawed to be used and can only be eaten in thoroughly cooked dishes. Never cook eggs directly from frozen."
