Dior‘s Kim Jones has reinterpreted the sartorial uniform with a new capsule collection titled “Modern Tailoring.” In this, Jones combines elements of the house’s traditional formal aesthetics with a contemporary vision, resulting in tailoring that epitomizes (but also reinvents) smart-casual attire.

Served as a uniform, Dior presents three distinct looks: a double-breasted jacket, a workwear-inspired piece, and a Harrington jacket, each paired with their respective pair of pants. The DB jacket is structured and, at first glance, formal — however, the addition of a strap and the CD pin in the lapel gives the blazer an architectural, streetwear-indebted edge.

Elsewhere, a single-breasted blazer delivers workwear design cues thanks to its oversized notched lapels, large pockets, and an overall boxy fit. Lastly, a Harrington jacket — typically something more informal — has been elevated with a double-button stand collar, two-way silver-toned zipper, and buttoned cuffs like you would find on a traditional mac.

All three jackets feature a matte black CD pin, buttons borrowed from the Bar suit (an iconic piece of Dior’s history that singlehandedly revolutionized Dior and, perhaps even womenswear, thanks to Christian Dior’s vision of feminity), as well as lining printed with the Cannage motif.

Complementing the blazers are pants in the form a suit trouser, chino, and jogging pant, which work well with their respective jacket or interchangeably. Pieces are then finished in a plain black virgin wool-mohair blend, a textured micro-houndstooth check, or a Prince of Wales check which further elevates the formality of each piece.

Rounding out the looks is Dior’s newest sneaker: the B27. It features basketball influences, notably a perforated toe box and side-panel reinforcement. There’s a Dior Obique pattern on the mid-panel, CD logos on the tongue and eyestay, Dior branding on the heel and front-quarter mid-sole, and a meticulous amount of attention to detail in terms of finishing touches, stitching, and precision.
