HAVE you given your fridge a good clean after Christmas yet?

Chances are it's probably not smelling so great at the moment after all that meat, cheese and sprout stench.

But sometimes a quick wipe down isn't enough to truly get rid of those grim smells.

In fact, a expert at CNET revealed there's only so much cleaning can do.

They said: "To absorb the odours, place an open box of baking soda in your fridge, some suggest sprinkling baking soda on a plate to increase the surface area."

Baking soda works well to get rid of nasty by just leaving it inside your fridge, but if you want a deeper clean you can also make a scrub by mixing it with water to get into all the nooks and crannies.

But if all of that sounds like a bit too much work, the cleaning whizz also suggested making use of something you probably use everyday – coffee grounds.

All you need to do is place a cup of ground coffee into your fridge and let it work it's magic for 24 to 48 hours.

Remember not to cover the coffee grounds for the best results.

The expert at CNET explained: "If you have some funky smells emanating from your freezer or refrigerator, place a cup of unused coffee grounds inside and wait.

"The coffee grounds will absorb the odour."

If the smell of coffee isn't really your thing you could also try soaking cotton balls in a small amount of vanilla essence and popping them in a container in the back of your fridge.

You can leave them in there until the smell vanishes, or until you have the time for a deeper clean.

When it is finally time for a deep clean, don't forget to clean any filters and to check the use by dates on any jars that might be causing smells.

Pools of water, no matter how small, can also make your fridge smell, so it's important to clean those up too.

Finally, go the extra mile and clean underneath your fridge as well as inside.

As well as the expected crumbs and dust, there could be bits of mouldy food and have found their way under there that are causing nasty smells.
