A CHARITY-SHOP pro has shared the six rules she follows that help her find the best stuff when shopping secondhand

Poppy May also revealed the sections you should NEVER skip, explaining she’s found some of her favourite items in glass cabinets and the men’s sections.

The keen bargain hunter, known online as @poppymayy, said: “Somebody asked me how I get lucky when I’m charity shopping, so I’m going to do videos of things I think about.

“So this one’s really obvious but check everywhere and check everything.

“Some of my best finds have been found through checking glass cabinets.

“Check the glass cabinets. Every few shops you’ll find at least one designer.

“Check the men's. Especially if you’re a tall girl like me, checking the men’s section is great because the sizes are bigger, the lengths are longer, and you’re more likely to find a good fit.”

The savvy shopper also claimed that the location of the charity shop doesn’t matter – and instead recommends taking a look inside any you pass.

She continued: “I think a lot of people think location matters.

“Location does not really actually matter. I’ve found some of my best things in random charity shops, so if you’ve got a spare five minutes, go in.

“You’ll thank yourself, even if you find a basic like this top.”

She also shared the simple ‘six-month rule’ which helps her think about what she’s buying.

“Something else I’ve been doing more recently is thinking about longevity.

“Like looking at something and thinking, ‘am I even going to wear this in a month? Am I even going to wear this in six months?’

“And I think the six-month rule is great.

“Like am I going to look at this and even want to wear it in six months? If you’re not, there’s probably no point spending your money on it.

“But if you look at something and know you will wear it in six months, then great investment.

“Buying things because they’re cheap is a way I used to go wrong so much.

“I still do it sometimes now. I’ll buy something because it’s a £1, £2, £3 and then I won’t even wear it and I’ll take it straight back to the charity shop which is a waste of my time, it’s a waste of somebody that would have actually wanted to buy it.”

Finally, Poppy also recommended always checking out the basics.

She added: “And I know it’s not everyone’s style, but I think another great thing you can do is buy basics, because no matter what outfits you’re going to wear, it’s going to match and last you a long time, and look good continuously.”
