It was the dubbed “the clash of the camel coats” by style expert Miranda Holder, when Kate Middleton stepped out in a beige coat at a recent event.

Internet users were quick to claim the Princess of Wales was drawing inspiration from the former-actress and wife of her brother-in-law Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex. One Aiza Croes-Acosta tweeted a picture of Meghan in a camel coat and wrote: “Who wore it first!”

“Meghan wore the camel outfit that Kate copied back in February at the Invictus Games,” another said.

However, beauty and style expert Miranda Holder, who has amassed a huge 73K TikTok followers on her account @themirandaholder set the record straight.

She explained: “Princess Catherine stepped out in an all-camel outfit yesterday for her visit to Scarborough and so many of you commented saying that she’s simply copying Meghan’s signature look for a camel coat.

“It’s very true that the camel coat is one of Meghan’s wardrobe heroes. She has a whole collection of them which she uses to add polish to every outfit.

“However, Kate was not copying Meghan, because, in true Princess Catherine style, she has worn the same beautiful coat on many separate occasions.”

Kate wore the Wool Long Run Coat, £439, by Max and Co. to visit Scarborough for a Community Impact Day.

“The difference between these two key looks is that Catherine is keeping her look monochrome whereas Meghan is going tonal,” Miranda went on.

“From a style perspective, I actually prefer Meghan’s look here. I think this look is very chic, you’ve got some caramel in there, some chocolate, I think it looks very expensive.

“Kate’s look is very elegant, it’s her signature style, but in my book, it’s a tiny bit boring and could do with a little bit of oomph.”

Miranda’s followers were quick to comment, one writing: “She isn’t copying Meghan. Kate had worn these coats on many occasions.”

Another said: “I think she wanted to make the poppy stand out that’s what I’m thinking it’s a beautiful look anyway.”

Another wrote: “The camel coat is a basic coat. We all wear it!”

Miranda recently explained how Kate uses style to send an important message to the public.

She said: “Despite her position in the public eye, Kate wears many of her outfits on repeat. This sends an important message to the rest of us promoting sustainability in fashion, which is what fashion needs.”

Kate is sending an important eco-friendly message, perhaps is support of her husband Prince William’s Earthshot prize.

According to Miranda, Kate is urging the public: “Don’t be afraid to recycle your wardrobe.”
