TV favourite Ulrika Jonsson is no stranger to speaking her mind on her topical and controversial issues.
The star, 54, has chosen to share a personal experience of abortion and revealed the decision “was my choice”.
Talking openly in her column in The Sun, Ulrika openly explains that that there was “not a moment’s doubt in my mind” over the decision.
She told readers she was on her way to Sweden following the sudden death of her father when she found out she was pregnant.
She said: “I discovered I was pregnant in an airport lavatory while travelling to Sweden in January 1996 following a shock phone call announcing my father’s sudden death at the age of 53.”
She was at a difficult time of her life and had a young child.
She explained: “I already had a 15-month-old son. I was going through a divorce and was in the early stages of a relationship.”
Ulrika is mum to Cameron, 27, with her first husband John Turnball, and 22 year old daughter Bo with her ex Markus Kempen.
She is also mum to 17 year old daughter Martha with her ex-husband Lance Gerrard-Wright and her youngest is son Malcolm aged 13 who she shares with Brian Monet.
The decision was a clear one for her at that time and she “chose a termination”.
She continued: “Contraception had failed me and I was neither willing to have or prepared for another child.
“I chose a termination. There was not a moment’s doubt in my mind.
“I carry no guilt over that. It was clear cut. My body was not ready for a pregnancy, my mind even less so.
“To that end, there was no emotional trauma surrounding my decision because for me it was my right to have the procedure.
“And most importantly, it was my choice.”
Her decision to speak out about her personal experience followed the current Roe v Wade ruling that could be overturned by the Supreme Court in the US that could see some states imposing restrictions on abortion.
Ulrika shared her experience describing herself as “lucky”.

She said: “I was lucky. For many women, the decision isn’t always as simple and is shrouded in guilt, coercion, deep contemplation, sadness and regret.”
Her comments come after she took to social media to give a nod to International Women’s Day last month where she debuted her new tattoo.
In a string of photos, Ulrika shared a selfie, followed by a snap of her new ink on her forearm. The tattoo reads “[fem-uh-nist]”.
She wrote: “I will continue to surround myself with strong women; I hope I’m bringing two up and that – most importantly – I leave behind two strong feminist sons."
“If you’re not a feminist, you’re on the wrong side of equality,” the mum-of-four added.
