Sir Tom Jones was married to his childhood sweetheart Linda for 59 years after they got together as teenagers. The 82-year-old lost his wife in April 2016 aged 75 after a “short but fierce” battle with lung cancer.

In a recent interview, The Voice UK coach was asked if he believes he could ever fall in love again.

Gushing over his wife, he said Linda was a “a part of me” and doesn’t think he would have the same connection with someone else.

He told Joe Wicks on his podcast: “No, I’ll never love again. There was one love of my life, and that was Linda.

“I’m glad we had our lives together but I wish she was here now, we would be old together.”

Tom went on to say he had fallen for Linda at just 12 years old, with the pair going on to marry four years later.

A month later, they welcomed their only child together, a son named Mark.

“We grew up together and we loved one another ever since we saw one another,” he added.

Last week, Tom left The Voice UK audience in tears when he sang his song I Won’t Crumble If You Fall, dedicated to his late wife.

The singer told viewers: “Now this song is very important to me. I try to pick songs that mean a lot to me.

“And this song is trying to tell you that people that you love, sometimes they need to be backed up. You need to give them strength and encouragement.

“My wife, you know, she was dying of lung cancer, so I said, you know, I was always able to fix stuff, to do things if she needed me I was always there.

“She said, ‘Don’t crumble with me, don’t fall now, you’ve done everything you can, you must carry on and do what you do’.

“So I put the song, when I heard it, it was like it was written for this situation. It’s a lovely song.”

Tom’s emotional performance from his chair caused his fellow coach Anne-Marie to leave the floor in tears.

Ahead of the series, she told press: “I actually had to walk off, not because it was bad but because it was so emotional.”

Olly Murs added: “You can see someone who loved his wife so much, you could see him living his life without her now, you can see that pain.”

Tom previously revealed how it was his wife’s words that urged him to continue singing.

During her final days, he told Linda how he didn’t think he could sing again, but she told him he “must” carry on doing what he loves.

She told him: “I’ve just ran out of time. But you’ve got to go and do it now.”

He added on The One Show: “And she said, ‘But when you get on the stage, think of me laughing. Don’t think of me as I am now.

“Think of all the years we’ve had together and that should lift you up.’ Which it does.”

The Voice UK continues tonight at 8pm on ITV.
