‘It sucks your soul’: Suki Waterhouse says she was exploited by modelling agency when she first started out and would ‘spend the summer trying to get skinny’ to please them

She made her name modelling lingerie for Marks & Spencer, but now Suki Waterhouse has spoken of the soul-biting years she was exploited by an unnamed model agency.

‘When you’re a model you’re kind of being trained and brainwashed that you’re just mute and there’s just a billion people touching you and creating for their vision.

‘It does suck your soul a little bit,’ admits Suki.

‘Those first few years were like toppling around London in ginormous heels because I wasn’t very tall and spending the summer trying to change my body and get really skinny so that they’ll be happy with me,’ says Suki of the modelling agency that she was signed to.

The Daisy Jones & The Six star adds: ‘If I got paid a couple of hundred pounds a show, they would organise me to get an envelope with some money in it at the end.

Suki began her modelling career after being discovered in ‘either a Topshop or H&M’ in London when she was 16.

When she was 19, she became a lingerie model for Marks and Spencer. She turned to acting in 2014 when she played Bethany Williams in the romantic comedy Love, Rosie.
