It seems that Strictly Come Dancing star Katya Jones is still recovering from the symptoms of the ‘Strictly curse’, a phenomenon that sees celebrities and their dance partners become romantically involved to the detriment of their off-screen relationships.
In Katya’s case her snog in the street with comedian Seann Walsh was captured by a paparazzo and plastered on the front page of every paper.
Seann was immediately dumped by furious girlfriend Rebecca Humphries, and now ten months later Katya’s marriage to fellow dancer Neil has broken down and sources say she is “struggling to cope.”
When Neil and Katya, who is rumoured to be entering the jungle, announced their split on social media a few weeks ago they told fans they would “always love each other” and promised to remain the best of friends”.
However, after rehearsals began last week for the next series, an insider told new! magazine that things are no easy waltz.
“Katya is really struggling with the fallout from the break-up with Neil and it’s had a huge impact on her at rehearsals. She’s putting on a brave face but some people are worried about her,” a source revealed.
“It would be difficult enough processing the shock of the relationship ending even if she didn’t have to see him again, but to have to face him every day is difficult. She’s really struggling to accept that it’s over and the emotional toll it’s taking on her is clear for a lot of people to see.”
Katya, 30, and Neil, 37, will have to share a ballroom for the next few months because for the first time since the show began they will both be partnered with celebrities.
While this may make things as awkward as Ann Widdecombe’s dancing, it is bitter-sweet for Katya who was reportedly going to have to be demoted to reserve dancer after last year’s scandal but is not being fired from the show.
Meanwhile, up north at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival, Seann has be doing nothing to dim the newly brightened spotlight on the scandal.
Just hours after Katya and Neil announced their split the comedian, 33, made shameless gags about Katya and took jibes at Neil’s sexuality.
Speaking to audiences at his Edinburgh stand-up show, he joked of the scandal, “I was put in a hotel so the paps can’t find me. I get into bed and I ask Katya to pass me the remote.”
He then went on to describe performing with the professional dancer as similar to “ejaculating” and likened their snog to “kissing a gay man’s wife”. Seann has since insisted that his jokes were “taken out of context”.
In contrast, Neil has apparently been far more considerate of Katya’s feelings. Speaking to new! magazine an insider said: “Neil is a decent guy and, even though he is really hurt by what went on in the relationship towards the end, he doesn’t want to put Katya through the mill and continually punish her for the relationship ending.
“He proposed that they have a sit-down talk so they can clear the air and concentrate on the show, but Katya feels she’s just not emotionally ready.”
Things may be tough for her at the moment, but Katya didn’t get any sympathy from TV presenter Lorraine Kelly. Earlier this year, Lorraine branded Strictly star Katya a “dafty” during a live TV interview.

The 59 year old TV host was discussing Katya and Neil’s new dance show, but couldn’t resist giving her a grilling on the kissing scandal that shook the nation last year.
Lorraine was speaking to Katya and Neil on the sofa – and much to the surprise of fans, went in on the professional dancer over what happened months ago. “What were you thinking you dafty!” she exclaimed.
“What was going on? Was it just too much booze? What happened?” An embarrassed Katya agreed: “Just silly me isn’t it.”
Lorraine went on to say that dancers and partners get very close on Strictly, with Katya agreeing and saying: “Probably. I always say it’s like living a small life within your own life, you go through stages so quickly and you get to know people and the dancing and all that…”
Lorraine chimed in: “It must have been really embarrassing though, love, to have to go and then tell Neil. I know things are OK now, but at the time…”
