Hip-hop pioneers Salt-N-Pepa will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on November 4.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that the MCs will be honored with the 2,738th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Recording. The star will be located at 6213 Hollywood Boulevard adjacent to Amoeba Music.
MC Lyte and Roxane Chante will join emcee Lupita Sanchez Cornejo for the star unveiling ceremony. The event will be streamed live exclusively at walkoffame.com
The trailblazing duo of Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton has changed the face of music for women in hip-hop.
Known as the First Ladies of Hip-Hop, Salt-N-Pepa grew up in different boroughs in New York City. Pepa, who was born in Jamaica and lived in St. Alban, Queens, while Salt resided in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
Salt-N-Pepa became the first female rap act to have an album go gold and then platinum. They became, along with Queen Latifah, the first female MCs to win a Grammy.
They have become international superstars, taking hip-hop from Russia to Australia. And they still have the best-selling album of all time by any female rap artists: their 1993 blockbuster Very Necessary.
